SVT and the City of Stockholm worked round the clock in order to showcase an extraordinary show when Sweden hosted the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest last month.

Thus Sweden joins Denmark, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, France, Germany, Ukraine, The Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and Estonia all whom have confirmed their participation at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine.

Sweden has won the ESC 6 times: 1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012 and 2015.

    SWEDEN has won the EuroVision 6 times. [1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015]
(the 2nd country with the most victories, with only IRELAND having more wins(7))
    ~ Has finished 2nd one time(only) in 1966
    ~ Has finished 3rd six times [1983, 1985, 1995, 1996, 2011, 2014]
    ~ Has finished 4th two times [1958(in their debut) & 1989]
    ~ Has finished 5th eight times [1968, 1973, 1986, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006 & 2016(this year)]
~ Has finished 6th one time in 1971
    ~ Has finished 7th two times [1962 2000]
    ~ Has finished 8th four times [1967, 1975, 1982, 2002]
    ~ Has finished 9th two times [1959, 1969]
    ~ Has finished 10th five times [1960, 1965, 1980, 1981, 1998]
Overall, Sweden has finished in the top10, 37 whole times(!) out of their 56 esc participations!
This must be a record as I don’t think that any other country
must has more top10 placings in the ESC than Sweden!

  • MarioVision

So the title of Queen of EuroVision
certainly doesn’t really belong to Ireland but to SWEDEN of course.
Its not only about to count the most victories necessarilly.
Ireland has finished in the top10 just 3 times only after their 1996 victory.
And they have never finished in the top5 for 20 whole years after their win.

  • MarioVision

    Addititionally,
Sweden has finished outside of the top10 but in the top15 another eight times.
Has finished outside of the top15 but in the top20 another six times.
Has finished outside of the top20 only two times! [1992 & 2009]
Coincidentally Christer Bjorkman holds this ”shameful” record
for Sweden’s worst ever placing in ESC!
(Although he didn’t finish last but almost last.)
Sweden had finished LAST in 1963 [with getting even 0 nul points]
& also in 1977 but not finishing with 0 points again though.

So SWEDEN makes the 12th country confirming its participation for next year’s EuroVision.
It will be their 57th participation in ESC.
Since their debut in 1958 they were present in almost every Grand Final except the one of 2010.
They had not participated also in the Contests of 1964, 1970 & 1976.

Maybe we will see the same phenomenon in MelodiFestivalen next year
    (like it happened with Ukraine)
with the eventual winner of MF not winning either on the juries or in televoting
& also neither on the SF & even not qualifying directly to the Finalen.
In 2013 the MF winner at least finished 1st in the juries although completed all the rest 3 criteria.

SWEDEN is big favorite to win the EURO that will begin tomorrow :)
Their best success so far in a Euro was their SF ~4~ presence back in 1992
[that Sweden was the host country of EuroVision in Malmo <3]
I think that even if the Swedes might not win the whole Euro this time
at least can reach the Final or tie their best ever result with progressing to the SFs.
    GOOD LUCK to Sweden :)
