Biography
Jetty Paerl came to fame during World War II. Being in London, she entertained Dutch listeners that were secretly listening to Radio Oranje for news of what happened in London and for news of queen Wilhelmina. Jetty's name during these years was Jetje van Oranje and she was really popular among the people that managed to listen to Radio Oranje without being caught by the Nazis. The Dutch people were not allowed to listen to foreign broadcasters during the war years. Although Jetty never reached the charts in the years after the war, she remains a well-known and much loved singer until the current day.
Annie M.G. Schmidt was a very popular writer of children's books like Jip & Janneke and Puk Van De Petteflet. She also was a well known writer of songs, both for musicals as of individual songs. All she did was affected by her fight against discrimination of any kind. Annie died in 1996.
