Biography

All was very unpopular with the BBC and song publishers who would have preferred a more modern (at the time) pop song to win. Patricia Bredin had been brought in to sing it after the personal assistant of Francis Essex, the producer of the Festival of British Popular Songs, had heard her sing in the musical Fresh As Air. After the song won the British heat there was no celebration. Perhaps it would have been different if a star had won, said Patricia in an interview with Alex Collinson. Certainly stars like Lita Roza and Carole Carr had snubbed the young singer before the final. Even in Frankfurt the focus seemed to be on Eric Robinson, the conductor. "Eric rather looked down on me", she says. He was a fearful snoot, interested in his own importance... My nickname for him was Boots. Summing up she says: "I was totally "green" all round. I was just happy to have done my own thing." All was never recorded although the sheet music sold surprisingly well.

Excerpts from her CV reveal that Patricia appeared in a number of movies, including Left, Right and Centre with Iain Carmichael and Alastair Sim and The Bridal Path. She also sang on the first World Cruise of the QE2 where she met her future husband, Canadian millionaire Charles E. MacCulloch. Her book My Fling On The Farm sold half a million copies in Canada where she now lives.
