Biography

Sandie Shaw (born Sandra Goodrich in 1947) was discovered by Adam Faith in 1964. The result was a first number one hit in the UK with (There's) Always Something There To Remind Me. The song was followed in the European charts by hits like Long Live Love and Tomorrow (I'll Cry). At the time she entered into the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK, Sandie's career was already on the way down, but Puppet On A String put her back at the top of the charts all over Europe, despite Sandie being not too positive about the song (she refused to sing it for several years). She followed her hit with songs like Monsieur Dupont, Those Were The Days (the Mary Hopkin song) and Think It All Over. By the end of 1969 her singing career was over and it took the handling of the production by The Smiths to put Sandie back in the UK charts in 1984 with Hand In Glove. She returned again to the UK charts in 1993 as part of the Putting Our House In Order charity project, when she did a version of Gimme Shelter with British group Cud. Sandie is still a much in-demand singer who recently was seen again doing Puppet On A String barefooted.
