Biography
Ronnie Tober scored his first hit in the spring of 1965 with Iedere Avond and that success was enough for the Netherlands to let him enter into the Dutch final for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965. Ronnie came second to Conny van den Bos, but his Geweldig was a far bigger hit than her Het Is Genoeg. Another hit came with Verboden Vruchten, but then 4 years followed in which he scored no hits at all. A bad omen for many an artist, but not for Ronnie. Morgen maybe didn't achieve the same success in 1968 as Geweldig achieved in 1965. But from 1969 to 1977 he scored a number of top 20 hits like Rozen Voor Sandra (1971), Naar De Kermis (his biggest hit: a 1975 duet with Dutch singer Ciska Peters) and Een Heel Gelukkig Kerstfeest (1975: together with former and future Eurovision contestants and writers Willeke Alberti (Netherlands 1994), Peter Koelewijn (Netherlands 1987) and Bonnie St. Claire (Dutch finals 1970, 1977 and 1982) and some other artists). After 1977 Ronnie's success dwindled, although he kept recording until far into the 90's. Most notable he re-recorded Naar De Kermis in 1995 with Robert Goliembiewski for a CD single that also featured a cover version of Sandra & Andres's 1972 entry Als Het Om De Liefde Gaat. Robert Goliembiewski for his part was a lover of Eurovision songs as well, as in 1997 he recorded a Dutch cover version of Eddie Friel's 1995 entry Dreamin'. Dromen was the title of the song and he sang it as part of the duo Ed & Robert.
Joop Stokkermans is a famous Dutch composer/conductor who wrote a lot of Dutch hits for others, but never achieved success himself in the Dutch charts. That pleasure was reserved for his bassist son Hans Stokkermans, who was a member of The Shorts, a highly successful Dutch group that enjoyed European and Asian success in the mid 80's with Comment Ça Va and Je Suis, Tu Es. There is another Eurovision connection with The Shorts. Singer Hans van Vondelen went on to work as an engineer for Eddy Ouwens Productions and worked with former ESC or Dutch final entrants like Willem Duyn (1974), Justine Pelmelay (1989), Maxine (1996) and Gert & Hermien (Dutch final 1962 and 1965).
