Biography
After she won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 with No Ho L'Étà, Gigliola Cinquetti scored another pan-European hit the same year with Il Primo Bacio. Soon afterwards she disappeared from view, remaining very popular however in Italy. 1974 saw Gigliola return to the Eurovision stage and again it was Mario Panzeri who wrote the song and Gianfranco Monaldi who conducted the orchestra. Although the song was no winner this time around and didn't reach the charts of most European charts, an English version of the song, Go (Before You Break My Heart), managed to better the results of her Eurovision winner in the UK charts by 9 places, stalling in the 8th position in June 1974. Gigliola, like so many other former Eurovision entrants, would go on to present the Eurovision Song Contest herself in later years. She did a co-presentation with the other Italian Eurovision winner Toto Cutugno in the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest in Roma.
