Biography
Cindy (born 26/01/48 in Völklingen) & Bert (born 12/09/45 in Völklingen) were a married singing duo whose real names were Jutta and Bert Berger. They met each other in 1965 and soon afterwards they married. In 1968 they signed a recording deal with German label BASF. A deal that led to some really big hits in the German speaking countries and the Benelux. Their biggest hits were Immer Wieder Sonntags and Spaniens Gitarren. Their Eurovision entry Die Sommermelodie actually was not their cup of tea and not many copies of the song were shifted. The compilation album from 1975, Schlager-Rendezvous 2, shared with German singer Freddy Breck, was the way in which the song became a bit more popular. Shortly after their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest the duo set their hopes on cover versions and cut German versions of the Bee Gees' Night Fever and Baccara's Darling as singles. These songs however didn't return the duo to the charts. When Cindy & Bert decided to divorce in the 80's, they also split as a singing unit. Cindy started a solo career as Cindy Berger, but she wasn't able to repeat the success she had as part of Cindy & Bert, despite appearing in most of the popular shows in Germany. Cindy competed in the German national final in 1987 and 1991. In the 90's Cindy & Bert decided to get back togeher as a singing unit, also recording some new stuff. But it is their 70's songs that are most requested both in radio and on TV.
