Biography
Heddy Lester (born Affolter) was promoted as a pop singer for the Eurovision Song Contest, although she never wanted that to be. To the current day she still doesn't feel comfortable with her participation in the 1977 contest. De Mallemolen was her only hit single in the Netherlands. She did record a full album, though, appropriately titled Deel Van Mijn Bestaan (part of my life). Heddy was and still is one of the most popular cabaret artists in the Netherlands. She is seen in musicals and children's shows alike, all with equal success. Sometimes she even tries her hands on drama.
Frank Affolter, who is Heddy's brother, wrote the music to De Mallemolen. He is a much in demand composer. Like Heddy, Frank is also mainly a cabaret artist, although he quite often tried his hands on recording singles and albums. Most success in this area he achieved with his 1986 hit The Way To Love/Het Is Nog Niet Te Laat and the album De Tranen Van Maria Machita.
Wim Hogenkamp, the lyricist of De Mallemolen, was a well known songwriter. Although mainly writing songs for other people, he also was a singer himself. He recorded some albums of which Heel Gewoon is the best known.
