Biography
Born on July 4th 1959 in Reykjavík, Eiríkur Hauksson is a teacher by profession, and a rock singer at heart. He started singing with various groups at 16, mostly hard-rock, which he prefers, and wrote the hit-song of the year 1981, "Guilty". He has taken part in 10 records over the past five years but has made no solo album - yet. Eiríkur also did two songs on Gunnar Þórðarsson's best selling record "Borgarbragur" last December and had both songs topping the Icelandic list for weeks. This powerful red-haired viking is the new name in Icelandic rock-music.
HeIga Möller was born in 1957 in Reykjavík. Her first performance was with a choir at the age of 8. She was accompanying herself on the guitar at 14 and joined a group at 18. Working as a stewardess off and on, Helga sang in the duo "You and I" from 1979-82 taking part in a song contest in Poland and achieving high record sales in Japan. She has made four LP's and many other recordings. Helga joined the cast of "The Little Shop of Horrors" in a box-office record-breaking show.
Pálmi Gunnarsson was born in 1950 in Vopnafjördur, a small fishing village on the eastern coast of Iceland. A professional singer and bass-player for 15 years, he has played jazz, folk and rock, and taken part in innumerable recordings as a session man and a solo artist. In 1972, he played the part of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar to excellent reviews. With LPs, TV-shows and countless performances behind him, Pálmi Gunnarsson is one of the leading singers of popular music in Iceland.
Born in 1945 in Reykjavík, Magnús Eiríksson, the composer of the first Icelandic entry to the Eurovision Song Contest has a fine career in music, both as a songwriter and as a performer. He has written the lyrics and music of many hitsongs for a great number of artists over a period of 20 years in addition to writing music for both films and television. A good guitar-player himself, Magnús is the chairman of FTT, The Icelandic Writer's and Composer's Association.
Gunnar Þórðarson was born in 1945 in Hólmovík, and started playing the guitar at 15. Three years later he was a professional musician. Music has been his way of life ever since and some call him "The father of rock in lceland". Gunnar has had almost 300 of his compositions recorded by himself or by other artists. He has also written music for film, television and theatre. It is no coincidence that Icelandic Television has chosen Gunnar Þórðarsson to conduct its first entry to the Eurovision Song Contest.
The group was originally known as Foreign Exchange. [Notes from the official 86 programme by NRK]
