Biography
Katrina and the Waves - Katrina Leskanich, Alex Cooper, Vince de la Cruz and Kimberley Rew - had a smash hit in 1985 with the summertime classic Walking on Sunshine. The song was chosen theme tune for GMTV's charity telethon Get Up and Give in 1996. The show spawned renewed interest in the group and the song and the money from the CD sales helped six charities. The band has toured with the Beach Boys, the Pointer Sisters, Chaka Khan, Wham, The Kinks, Fleetwood Mac and Don Henley. The band is called after a book by Virginia Woolf (a relative of Alex Cooper).
Kimberley Rew's TV, film and stage credits include Look Who's Talking, Secrets of my Success, Fright Night and China Beach - as well as the band's big hit, Walking on Sunshine, and The Bangles' song Going Down to Liverpool. He joined cult band The Softboys when he graduated from Cambridge, and worked with such artists as Robyn Hitchcock and Ashley Hutchins. [Notes from the Official 1997 Programme by RTÉ]
