Biography
Edsilia Rombley was born in Amsterdam in 1978. She found instant fame after winning the Dutch equivalent of Stars In Their Eyes, the Soundmix Show, in '96. Millions of voters chose her for her interpretation of Oleta Adams' I Just Had To Hear Your Voice. Last year Edsilia won the European Soundmix Show, shortly afterwards leaving the group Dignity (with which she had a minor hit with Talk To Me at the same time she won the European Soundmix Show) to pursue a solo career. Later, from the centre of the Ajax FC pitch, she sang Tina Turner's Simply The Best before an audience of 40,000 people.
Eric van Tijn and Jochem Fluitsma started working together in 1980 with musical recordings for the popular Dutch TV series, De Familie Knots. Jochem studied classical guitar and played in various bands. Eric, the son of a sound technician, was a fan of the Beatles' producer George Martin. He studied light music at Rotterdam Conservatory before producing his first record. From 1986 onwards the pair have achieved hit after hit with many artists, including dance group Mai Tai and Ruth Jacott's 1993 Eurovision entry, Vrede.
Dick Bakker is the conductor of the Netherlands Metropole Orchestra. He is a well-known composer and arranger in his own right. He composed Ding-A-Dong, the song which won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1975. In 1982 Dick broadened his activities to the rest of Europe. He has since composed and arranged music for the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra. He also records with the London Studio Orchestra.
