Biography
Alma Lusa is a group specially created for the contest. It is made up of: Inês Santos (lead singer), Carlos Jesus (Portuguese guitar), Henrique Lopes (percussion and vocals), Carlos Ferreirinha (cavaquinho and vocals), Pedro Soares (Portuguese bagpipe and vocals) and José Cid (accordion and vocals).
José Cid is one of the outstanding personalities of Portuguese light music. He has participated in several festivals in the past, including 1980's Eurovision Song Contest with Um Grande, Grande Amor. But up to now he has never won. Having taken an active part in the rebirth of Portuguese music in the 60s, José has succeeded in keeping a balance between rock and romantic music.
Mike Sergeant (conductor) came to Portugal from London and began the collaboration with José Cid which lasts to this day. He has now represented Portugal three times in the Eurovision Song Contest, once as a singer in the group Gemini (1978) and twice as a conductor (1983 and 1998).
