Biography

Koit Toome was born in the Estonian capital Tallinn in 1979. He started his studies at the Tallinn Music Gymnasium before moving to the Georg Ots Musical School where he specialised in pop and jazz piano. He sang with the celebrated Tallinn Boys Choir which has performed in churches around the world. Three years ago he started a solo career, singing in the pop group Code One, which produced two very successful albums and several No.1 hits.

Maria and Tomi Rahula got married last year and are romantically calling this year’s Eurovision Song Contest their honeymoon. Maria was a member of one of the country’s most popular groups, Best B4. She hopes to release a solo project soon. Tomi joined the Estonian Television Children’s Choir when he was aged five. He went on to become leader of the Tallinn Boys Choir. He is currently studying electronic music at the Estonian Music Academy.

Peeter Pruuli’s mastery of words and musical abilities were first noticed nearly 20 years ago when he won a special prize in a national song contest. A one-time hippie traveller in the former Soviet Union, he has studied music at several schools, but his natural inclination is still to teach himself.

Heiki Vahar was just eight years-old when he joined the well-known Ellerhein Choir. He graduated as a violinist from the Tallinn Music Academy and joined Estonian Radio as a concert master and, later as a conductor of light orchestra music. He has also played in several rock groups and conducted one of the first Estonian rock operas, Soul and Passion. He has worked with a number of well-known Estonian artists. He has conducted all of Estonia’s entries for the Eurovision Song Contest. [Notes from the Official 1998 Programme by the BBC]
