Biography
Another singer returning in 1999 to the contest was Darja Švajger who in 1995 took Slovenia to their best placing with the song Prisluhni Mi. Darja was born in Maribor and graduated in solo singing and jazz from Graz, Austria. Primoz Peterca was also involved in 1995. He graduated as an aircraft engineer but has been writing songs since 1988.
This old-fashioned and complicated ballad would have done extremely well under the jury system but perhaps lacked the punch needed to score big under televoting. The sound levels were a bit low at the beginning of the song and Darja's dress was perhaps not the best she could have chosen (she looks gorgeous in black) but luckily the Irish televote system collapsed and the backup jury awarded twelve to join the top mark from Croatia. Not enough to keep Slovenia in for 2000 however.
