Biography
Mieczyslaw Szczesniak is 30 years old, and a very popular singer in Poland, known for his jazz, soul and pop repertoire. He made a record last year, Black on white which was nominated for the Fryderyki Awards (Polish music industry awards). His latest hit is a duet with Edyta Górniak Dumka na dwa glosy taken from the Ogniem i mieczem soundtrack (a film by Janusz Hoffman).
Drawn between four of the strongest female-performed uptempo songs, this elegant ballad was always likely to be overlooked and sadly this was the case. Mietek had problems with his voice during the rehearsals but on the night was in complete control and with no nerves gave a great performance. Despite this the song only received a handful of votes. As such Poland are now relegated for the first time since their impressive debut in 1994.
