Biography
Serafin Zubiri (born in 1964) will represent Spain for the second time, and indeed also for the second time in Sweden. Last time, he was singing "Todo esto es la música" (All this is music) and came 14th in Malmö in 1992.
Serafin, whose real family name is Lizoain, comes from Pamplona in northern Spain and started his musical career at the tender age of 17, when he co-founded the local Pamplona band Equus. Despite being blind, Serafin Zubiri is a very active person. He once became the Spanish champion for blinds at 1 500 metres. He has also climbed the highest mountain of South America; the Aconcagua (6 960 metres).
José María (or Chema) Purón is a well-known and respected musician in Spain. He has had his own singing career, but now mostly works as a composer and producer. In 1978, as a singer, he came fourth in the Ibero-American song contest OTI, a contest where Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries take part. The contest was held in Santiago de Chile and Chema sang his own "Mi sitio" (My place) for Spain.
In 1992, he won the same contest, but as a composer. The final was then held in Valencia and the opera singer Francisco sang José María Purón’s "¿Adónde voy sin tí?" (Where do I go without you?) to a very popular victory.
His only Eurovision attempt ended with a runner-up position. "Vuelve conmigo" (Come back to me) was the title of the song that Anabel Conde sang so well that Spain almost won in Dublin in 1995. Will he equalize it or do even better in Stockholm?
