Biography
Stefan Raab was born in Cologne in 1966. He went to a Jesuit boarding school and graduated from there in 1988. After graduation he was a butcher’s apprentice and got his diploma before he started studying law at the university. During his university years he started writing music on a more or less professional basis. He wrote and arranged music for film and television, but also produced short commercial jingles.
In 1994 he became a presenter on the German music television channel, Viva, and started to become a household name. The year after he got his first hit with a hiphop remake of an old 70s hit. His first involvement in the ESC was in 1998, when he under the cover name of Alf Igel composed the German entry "Guildo hat euch lieb" which Guildo Horn, in his own semi-anarchist way, performed in Birmingham. This year’s "Wadde hadde dudde da", which is children’s language for ’What do you have there?’, is in the same humouristic style and has strong influences of soul music.
