Biography
"The most socially dangerous band in the world" is how a local Communist leader described the Russian band Mumiy Troll. But that was back in the Soviet Union when anyone who played anything that even hinted at western music was automatically part of the musical underground.
Today Mumiy Troll is one of Russia's leading rock bands with four successful CD's and live concerts full of warmth, energy and chaos. In 1996, the band released its first official album, which included a song that hit the top of the Russian charts. A vote in Russia later chose Mumiy Troll as the "Best band of the Millennium".
Ilia Lagoutenko has not only written both the music and the lyrics for the song "Lady alpine blue" - he is also Mumiy Troll's charismatic lead singer and the driving force behind the band. He formed his first psychedelic punk band when he was 11, back when everything that had anything to do with rock and roll was considered degenerate and subversive.
He formed Mumiy Troll in 1983 though the band didn't have a lot of drive and Ilia Lagoutenko left for a several-year long journey to China. He also lived for a period in London. In 1996, he and Mumiy Troll were offered the chance to record their first official CD and they have been at the top of the Russian rock ever since.
The members of the groups are Ilia Latougenko, Eugene "Sdwig" Zvidionny, Yuri Tzaler and Oleg Punguin.
