The Icelandic national final was held at at Háskólabíó in Rejkjavik. The 15 singers and groups had to perform their entries in Icelandic although this was not the obligatory language for Riga. Birgitta won the televoting by a landslide, receiving more than twice the amount of the televotes the runner-up did. Only the top3 were announced and rumours concerning other results have never been confirmed.
Segđu mér allt, the winning song was translated for Riga to Open your heart. Brigitta herself already tried to represent Iceland during the 2001 national but only finished 7th.
Among the backing singers (who were part of most of the performances) was Kristján Gíslason, part of the duo 2Tricky that brought a last place to Iceland in 2001. Regína Ósk, who did not reach the top3, nevertheless made it to Riga as a backing singer for Birgitta Haukdal.
