Biography

The t.A.T.u.. Duet – the most eminent and promising project in Russian Youth pop-music. Lena Katina: born on October 4, 1984, student of the psychological department of the Moscow Humanitarian College. Yulia Volkova: born on February 20, 1985. Graduated from school, she entered the “State Musical Variety and Jazz Arts School”, vocal department. Both Lena and Yulia sang in children’s group “Neposedy” (“Naughty Girls”). The girls came together to the casting that took place on the Mosfilm Studio. They were selected among the 500 contenders for the project. For the shooting the video “I’ve Lost my Mind” Lena had to loose almost 10 kg and Yulia had to cut her hair and color it black.

The t.A.T.u. group was formed in 2000 by the scriptwriter and director Ivan Shapovalov who is the producer of the group now.In September 2001 – t.A.T.u.’s video “I’ve Lost my Mind” was announced “The Best video of the year” according to the results of MTV-Russia viewers’ voting. On September 6, 2001 at New York Metropoliten Opera, t.A.T.u. got an MTV Music Video Award as the “Viewer’s Choice – Best Russian Video”.

In March 2002 re-release of the album “200 in the Wrong Lane” beats all the records during the first week of sales: 60 000 legal copies sold! Now the number of sold copies of the t.A.T.u. albums is about 1.100.000!
