Ukraine selected its Eurovision Song Contest participant for 2004 internally. Ruslana Lyzhicko won the internal selection and will represent her country in Istanbul!
Biography
Ruslana is a cult figure among the most popular Ukrainian singers, composers and producers. Ruslana has done two graduate degrees in music. Her potential is remarkable; Ruslana possesses powerful vocal abilities, exclusive manner of performance, originality of style, colourful ethnic appeal, powerful energy, diligence, drive and expression capable of thrilling and carrying away a stadium crowd. Ruslana is sparkling, surprising and “wild” in the best understanding; she readily experiments with her style and does not follow the cliches. Ruslana is an established and original image, a well-known and striking brand. Ruslana is the “wild” energy.
She is not a “product” of her producers. Not only she composes music and makes arrangements, but also she is the producer of her own ideas and the director of her videos.
Major achievements:
- “Wild Dances” (“Dyki Tantsi”) album sold more than 170,000 copies. It has received the “platinum” title.
- Christmas musicals: “The Last Christmas of the 90s”, “Christmas Legends”, “Lviv-Style Christmas”.
- The “Sunrise” (“Svitanok”) video – “The best Ukrainian video 1998”; The Golden Firebird award.
- Ukrainian representative in the BBC’s “Today 2000” global project.
- First-ever concert with the big symphony orchestra at the “Tavria Games” (“Tavriyski Ihry”) festival.
- Charity art-project “Tour of the Castles of Ukraine”.
- “Wild Dances” 2003 nationwide tour – 25 concerts in 25 biggest Ukrainian cities.
“I Know” is the first mega video made for modern wide-screen cinemas. Sound format – Dolby Digital 5.1. Image format – High Definition. Creative team – 250 specialists and 5 film studios from 7 countries. 10 helicopter sessions, 4 kilometres of video tape footage, acoustic concert within a waterfall.

- “Chervona Ruta” national festival of modern song and popular music, prize winner.
- Grand-Prix of the “Melodiya” national television festival of popular music.
- Grand-Prix of the “Slavyanskiy Bazar” international art festival.
- “Crystal Lion” regional programme, winner in the “Pop Star of the Year” nomination.
- “Song of the Year” national show-concert, prize winner in the Ukrainian popular music nomination.
- Grand-Prix of the “Golden Era” festival in the “Best Film of the Year” nomination; film: “The Sonorous Wind of the Oleskyi Castle” (“Dzvinkyi viter Oleskoho Zamku”).
- The Golden Firebird, winner in the “Best Song of the Year – The Sunrise (Svitanok)” and “Best Video of the Year – The Sunrise” nominations.
- First Ukrainian National Programme “Person of the Year”, prize winner in the “Pop Star” nomination.
- The “Platinum Disc” title awarded to the “Wild Dances” album by the Independent Association of Record Companies on 17 December 2003 (Kyiv, London).
