Ukraine media: She's our winner!
"Winner Ani Lorak" headlines independence party
As part of four days of celebrations, the finale will be a huge concert in the heart of Kiev, once the Eurovision Square where thousands of residents gathered to watch the live broadcast of the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest. They will be treated to live performances from Tina Karol, who took Ukraine back to the Eurovision Song Contest final in 2006 with Show me your love, and this year's runner-up, Ani Lorak.
Ani's performance in Belgrade delighted her fellow countrymen and she was rewarded with a medal from the Ukrainian president as a hero of the people. Local media simply refer to her as the true winner of the contest.

"She/he's the true winner of the contest/competition to us..." I find that such sentences are heard and read way too often in each and every country, and not only regarding the ESC. Sorry but I find them extremely pathetic. There is one winner, and he/she is the same for all. No way to change it.
@ Vincent Barbarino
She sings "My HEART is on fire"...
@ Jonny K
Welll, one could get the impression by reading your comment that there were only four nations with a manifold performance... I think there were enough nations who added some stuff to their song on stage and made a show, but just much more decent than Russia, Ukraine or Greece, and that one should bear them in mind as well...
No doubt, I've shorted it up, it was not quite understandable...
"my panties are on fire....." looooool! are you sure, TK, that Tina Carol sings this in "show me your love"??!! and this was and still is one of my favourite entries of the recent esc years..and i used to play this out loud home..how shameful! lol..i have to check the lyrics though. Anyway for me Tina Carol is the best ukrainian entry up to now. "Shady Lady" was also a strong performance and a nice dance pop tune(with also a bit embarassing lyrics for a man :-), but i preferred Tina's performance and song. I loves also the ukraine danicng and boots on stage and her shouting in the bridge of the song. About Ruslana now..i have never gone wild over her performance, i guess "wild dances" was a strong entry, but ruslana is by far not a favourite of mine.
I like the fact that Ukraine takes this contest so seriously and it rewards its participants.
" hero of the people " ? Yes, she was a hero indeed unlike those who just sung about them !
@ Jonny K
Eh, Israel? Portugal? Norway?
How good that we only had to choose between Russia, Ukraine, Greece and France...
@johnny k: dude im gonna have to actually disagree wit u here mate, sorry
dima's performance was classy??? oh god it was pain to watch, it was sooooooo over performed it wasnt funny! where do we start... ok dima over acting, looking like he was relieving himself from a long spat of constipation everytime he hit the uber notes, the writhing on the floor like a cockroach who's been sprayed with flyspry, the barefeet.. bleh horrible!!
oh yeh and did i forget the complete and utter superfluosity of that hideous ice skater??? man bad haircut lol, but on a less superficial note the concept of the iceskater was superfluous to the unth degree..
tina karol was great, mainly coz she was hot
lol.. yeh the song was dumb, was it just me or does she say "my panties on fire""?? lol... but i liked the ethnic elements in it, the music, the dances and dancers, and plus can i say again, shes fkn hot!!!!
tina carol!!! for me the best ukrainian entry up to date: strong voice, a nice and catchy pop beat, slight ethnic elements on the music and the dresses, although i can very well remember everybody did not have tina carol and "show me your love" on its favourite list and in all polls she was out of the ten qualifiers, i was 100% sure it would qualify and it would do fine. And to be sure, i voted for it some 20 times in the semis and some 10 in the finals. I like this song very much, for me it is stairs better than "wild dances" and "shady lady". To be honest at the 1st hearinfg of all the entries i tipped "shady lady" and "kele-kele" as the most probable winners, but i would never vote for ani, i just don't like her
Jonny
LOL
(Oh no, Euro Sheep!)
Jonny
Sue them
I think this is one of my least favourite entries.
I'm not a huge fan of the Ukrainian entries. I think I prefer "Wild dances" to the rest though. The Norwegian entry was the only top 5 song this year that I liked, and the Russian performance.
Sí, mi reina
I think a lot of people watching the ESC knew who Plushenko was. At least in Sweden he's very popular (yet we didn't vote for Russia
). Not only Plushenko but many figure skaters are skating to Edvin Marton's music. He's often present on the ice too playing his violin.
Jonny
I think that bit about Paul McCartney was mentioned in the "Nul points" book
I agree, Jemini deserved better. The song was good and they were mostly in tune in the second half. Compared to 2B who competed for Portugal in 2005 Jemini gave a good performance imo
@ w s
I agree completely. Nothing against a nice show, but what happens at the moment is just overdone and gets totally out of hand...
And it's not even new anymore... A ice-skater on stage, I'm sorry, that's so over the top...
Jonny k, I got made, I really thought that puppet was being outrageous. But, if Andy himself did not bother, I´ll let it go, also.
"What will be next year?"
the hosts will come out of giant size babushkas, then all the delights of a typical gulag will follow action.
Apparently I am the only one not liking Tina's song. It kept dragging on and on and on and on. She looked fabulous though. As for Ani, I hated the song before the contest, but it was a great performance. And I also think "Believe" was a better song then "Shady lady", but that performance was one of the most pathetic I have ever seen. Especially that violin-guy pretending to play a Stradivarius. I think a more modest performance would have suited the song better. And probably would have ensured a Russian win also.
And I think it is time to get a stop at all those requisites on stage. I believe the Athens contest was the first with lots of extras on stage. Before that year there was an occasional chair. And now it gets more and more. A skating ring, a giant book, a lightbox holding four men. It is a bit ridiculous. What will be next year?
"she was rewarded with a medal from the Ukrainian president as a hero of the people"
NO!!!!!!!!!
"she was rewarded with a medal from the Ukrainian president as a ARTIST of the people"
Jonny k, Andy was unfairly treated, IMHO. I hated that stupid Dustin puppet saying that "Andy used to collect rubbish, now he sing it". Idiotic puppet.
Jonny, I'll be in chat for a while if you wanna come...
"OMG, Now that is taking eurovision seriously!"
Jonny K, what about this?'
"The whole Russian nation - from ordinary people to President Dmitry Medvedev - united in joy as young singer Dima Bilan secured the victory at the Eurovision-2008 contest in Belgrade on Saturday. The hero received personal congratulations from the leader of the nation, an honorary title and other signs of distinction like a street and a school named after him.

UKRAINE CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY AT 24 AUGUST
Well Ani is better than Dima, the song the performance, everything
Lorak, hero of the people?? OMG!
but yeah she was the true winner
Mina,
so what's the difference between Ani showing her behind and Kalomoira doing exactly the same. The only difference between the two is that Ani can sing.....
marc, I didn't say anything about 'showing'..neither Kalmoira nor Ani showed their behinds..lol
With Ani, it was one particular movement that bothered me and from what I remember, Kalomoira didn't get on all fours and stretched her behind at any point, did she?
Oh I forgot to say that I found Verka the worst Ukrainian participant ever. I just don't think that joke entries belong to Eurovision (sorry to his/her fans).
Mina,
so what's the difference between Ani showing her behind and Kalomoira doing exactly the same. The only difference between the two is that Ani can sing.....
Verka was the TRUE winner!
Russia did great job too. Somehow I think even though ppl maybe like "Believe" they don't like fact that Russia won... because of ex USSR and all those western and eastern rubbish. I think it would be tha same thing if some of ex YU republic won....
But I've done this 1000 times, I give my strongest applause to winner and I just know Russia will be one of the best host ever... Can't wait ESC 2009
