Negotiations with famous artist underway
France: Internal selection confirmed
For year's strategy, Bruno Berberes, French Head of Delegation, declares that "France 3" is now considering a famous artist to represent the country. Negociations are on their way.
The reason for this change in strategy is two-fold: to make the audience for the Eurovision Song Contest bigger; and to make it possible for a well-known artist to accept the invitation. "Famous people have not been willing to enter the Eurovision Song Contest for a long time now, so the one who will accept should have a complete freedom in the choice of the song" M. Berberes told esctoday.com.
It is hoped that by attracting a famous and popular artist for 2008, it will kickstart French interest in the Eurovision Song Contest. The strategy for the 2007 national final was to infuse youth and revigorate interest in the competition from the French viewing audience. The poor result of France in Helsinki meant a return to the drawing board.
No names have been given yet. “The final decision decision will be taken in February and made public by the beginning of March” esctoday.com has been told. Early speculation has included the names of Tina Arena and Mylene Farmer but France Television is giving away no clues at this stage.

Tina Arena...another Australian in the contest...now I would support that!
She's had a string of good hits here, and the UK. She's had a string of hits in France but I don't think to a major extent - but most of those were sung in French alone. Good luck if she did get in!
Oh so Mylene Farmer can't sing? Absolute rubbish - I've seen her in concert and she can definitely sing - and no, she does mime or use recorded backing tracks. You also seem to be under the illusion that they sing live in the ESC anyway - more rubbish, they all mime, or haven't you noticed.
Anyway, I doubt if Mylene would do it anyway - she's got more sense.
Yeah,Mylene would go for France and Madonna for UK... Yeah yeah..
U guys are HILARIOUS!!!!!! loooooooooooooooooooool!!!!!
Mylene Farmer simply couldn't compete for the contest for the simple reason that she can"'t sing live. Her concerts are recorded
the choice will be done between Patricia Kaas, who needs to boost her career in France (she's no longer famous as she used to) and Liane Foly (who has al;wa
Speculation about Mylène Farmer ?!!! My god, who wrote that ? This is totally ridiculous. Obviously, this will not be a very big name who will accept to go for France, but I feel relieved that this will be an internal choice. It took time to Bruno to understand that this is the only way to get something decent for France. Even if it's obvious, of course, that France has not a single chance to win again.
Bob Sinclair for France!
Eve Angeli would be an option too. Her career has suffered a lot these last years, and she might be ready to go to Belgrade. Moreover, whatever people may say, she has an awesome voice and is a great live performer. And she's gorgeous too.
Well, I think the most important is the song!
After that, a good artist, it's even better!!
France can win, just as every other nation. Send a good song, that's the point. The other point is the performance.
Tina Arena could be a good choice, she had lots of succes with her french songs in France and then she has made som hits all over the world. With Tina, France could do it in french or english.
Greg Dunn, I like also 'aimer a l'impossible'. Could have been ESC.

Why not have Tina Arena represent France in Belgrade when she had a song as good as "Aimer Jusqu'à l'impossible" a few years ago that would have been perfect for Eurovision?
Soha, Soha, Soha!, she very the exotic best one. Please Fr3 send Soha to Eurovision'08
Good luck France and to the rest of the 'big 4'!
Mylène Farmer?? LOL ... NEVER!
The article just talks about a "well-known" artist, not an "international famous artist". So we better consider some 2nd and 3rd choice of artists, not the first class.
Anyway, I think France used to be more successfull with internal selections than with the recent national "finals", so it might be a good option to go back to that.
I remember that during the preselection two years three years ago LIane Foly said that she would be ready to go to ESC if she was asked... maybe someone remembered that this year?
Another option in today's political landscape would be Carla Bruni... as the French President is so present everywhere these days he might want to win Eurovisin with his future wife...
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!
Mylene at Esc..Thats the biggest bulls**t I read in AGESSSS!!!
You can't compare the ESC in 2001 and 2002 with the ESC in 2008. A lot of things have changed since then.
In the past much fewer countries participated. Most countries were from the west. There weren't yet semis so the big 4 rule wasn't very obviously to the viewers in the past. And last but not least not all countries used televoting in 2001 and 2002. In 2001 France get for example 12 points from Bosnia & Herzegovina and Russia which used juries.
France has because of all these changes nearly no chance to get a place among the best 10 in the final in 2008. It doesn't matter who they will send with which song. I predict they will get one of the five worst places in the final.
Alizée has just released a new album and her single "Mademoiselle Julie". Don't think she will represent us
But, I think for ex. Eve Angeli could be the one and if so, that's also great!
Like her songs:

@ jolanda
yes fuck them all was a great mylene farmer song, but we will not be so lucky as to have her in esc though we can hope . i think desenchantee is her best song, also , l ame stram-gram, c est une belle journee , and a quoi je ser, are really great songs
Go australia (tina arena), but daft punk could do the music or something coz they are very popular
Mylene Farmer is an icon. I doubt she would join the contest.
The video of Fuck them all is amazing indeed.
- Hey bitch, you're not on the list.
Oops!
Mylene Farmer should have sung to Europe and represented France some years ago with "Fuck Them All"... just perfect
no, seriously! It's an awesome hit.

Yes, right Khalid GR... here I read some names that, I'm sorry but...., never on earth they will take part in the ESC now! Farmer, Angeli, Goldman, Arena, Laam, Guetta... are you sure?!?!
Famous artist or not, what counts is the song.
In 2001 and 2002 France sended 2 unknown singers, Natasha St-Pier and Sandrine Francois, but they ended up on very high positions (4th and 5th) because of two incredible songs.
Make it again, that's what we want, I think everybody!
Guys, please don't get too excited, I have a bad feeling that France will disappoint us by selecting a no-name artist.
Can't wait to hear the song and see the artist!
Great job France, give us pure music
Perhaps France should turn to a Canadian singer to do the honours? It would seem to me that if popular French recording artists don't want to ruin their reputation by participating in ESC then perhaps it might be a good idea to turn to a non-European artist who has nothing to lose? Same with the UK...I think the BBC should approach a some bigger names in America, Australia etc
THIS IS THE BEST THING SO FAR!
I'm waiting for this for so long, France is one of my fav countries
France has lots of great artists...
... and DJ's like Bob Sinclar, David Guetta, David Vendetta, Martin Solveig, Mathieu Bouthier (make Your Own Kind of Music), Yves Larock...
Yes!
GOOD, if they are successful (which is unlikely) maybe the UK will follow suit next year, then again can the BBC be trusted to make a good decision?
