Four versions of the song prepared

Azerbaijan: Day after day undergoes changes

Azerbaijan will be debuting this year in the Eurovision Song Contest with Day after day, a duet performed by Elnur Huseynov and Samir Javadzadeh. The final version of the song will not be the one that won the Azerbaijani national final but it will undergo considerable changes both in music and lyrics.

"Mugham also spelled as Mugam (Azeri: Muğam) is one of the many musical traditions of Azerbaijan, contrast with tasnif. During Mugam, the singers have to transform their emotions into singing and music. It is a highly complex form of art music (as opposed to folk music) with specific systems and concepts of musical expression that demand of its performers a very high standard of professionalism." Wikipedia.

The mugam part of Day by day will be extended and some parts of the song will be performed in Azerbaijani. Samir Javadzadeh, who will be performing the mugam part, will be seen in the role of the devil. The entire song is about the fight of good and evil impersonated in the devil and the angel, Elnur explains: "I become pure after the angel's song. The devil is also an angel expelled from paradise. Mugam purifies the scream of the heart. The devil sings the song together with the angel and then falls on his knee and returns with the angel to the place of the Creator. Mugam cures the damned spirit. Our performance has not been finalised yet. We will prepare it comprehensively and it will be more interesting than the show which we demonstrated on February 2."

Four versions of the song are being prepared for the promo tour in English, Azerbaijani, Russian and French according to lyricist Zahra Badalbayli.

I my opinion Azerbaijan has a good song which is far better than many expected. I`ll vote for it. They put a very nice show, creative and entertaining. Good luck!

Shoot, this was probably one of the worst ESC entries I can remember. The song itself was weird, and the guys aren't much of singers, they we're trying to hard, I think. I still hope that the changes of the song are MAJOR, if not, the song won't have a chance to make it to the final. I still hope the best for Azerbaijan, it's fun to have a new country join the Eurovision!

There's someone here who didn't liked the song and thinks that Azerbaijan is a Middle Eastern Country. Well it's not. It's Next to Georgia & Armenia on the Caucasian Mountains & it also has nice beeches on the Caspian Sea. As for the song itself, I feel that vocals can work better with a little more practice. I like the fact that the Elnur Gusseinov doesn't pretend that he sings opera. He's literary joking with it. The one who's got a lot of work to do is Samir Javazadeh who plays the "evil" guy of the song. Someone must tell him that making his voice sound more... metal doesn't nessesarily renders more "evil-ness". Apart from all these I believe that the song will surely stand out and that it will go to the Final. GO AJERBAIJAN GO

This song, is so terrible it beggers belief! I can't understnad how anyone can listern to this and think it's good?

The guys look like freaks, they scream so high, there is no tune and they can't actually sing, but then they don't need to with this 'song'.

opera and screaming should be toned down indeed!

I like the song.
It's the vocals which need improvement.

OOOH, I hope they make drastic changes on this horrible song! It will improve a little bit if they sing in Azerbaijani and not with that awful English accent. Also, they're gonna need A LOT of practice to sing better live!

Having said that, I actually don't dislike this song as much as Lithuania and Moldova...

The only thing i don't like in this song is the opera thing, otherwise it' svery nice song, ofcourse can still improve.

Seduchka it is too early to write an essay like this. I advice you to write your essay after they defined the final version of this song.

The song we listened at "Land of Fire" was a new song. It couldn't go to Belgrad like this. They are going to change many things in this song, the words will be clear for sure, so we could understand english, some parts of song will be in azerbaijani, mugham part will be extended, opera part will be decreased. The final version will have a nice show and will be much better. As for other entrants, i didn't like any other known songs. Frankly speaking, "Day After Day" is not worser than any other known songs of ESC 2008.

This song is in desperate need for fundamental changes... Why not make a completely different song (a good one this time) and just keep the title?

Too much controversy on Azeri entry..This is good, and is a proof that it will be in top 5.

Good Luck Azerbaijan :)

First of all, i agree with some opinions about the song. Actually, most of all i liked The End by Unformal. But if no, then this song. It is ok. There are many known songs for this ESC in Belgrad. And you are talking about Day after Day as if all those songs from other countries are cool, the only "trash" is this one. This will be good if no perfect and better than many other songs in Belgrad. Try to be more fair while giving an opinion about something!

That's such a cool song and a strong debut ! Good luck to them but looking at the already selected songs, it really seems as if Azerbaijan don`t need to worry much about competitors.

No matter how much they work over the song, it will always be an absolute stinker. This is the sort of song that earplugs were invented for.

WOW, there's an elaborate libretto to the Azeri song, I hope it doesn't turn into Jerry Springer - The Opera. I'll wait to hear the song in its final shape but so far all this is a bit heavy handed I think.
