It's a great honour to represent my country

Hungary: esctoday.com speaks to Csezy

Csezy won the Hungarian national final for Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song Candlelight and she will represent Hungary in the second semi-final on 22nd May 2008. This week she spoke to esctoday.com about her song, her participation in the Hungarian national final and in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Csezy was born in November 1979 in a small town Mezokovesd, far from the capital city of Budapest. Since her childhood she has received a sound musical education. She is not only a singer but also a pianist. Csezy graduated from the Bela Bartok Musical Department of the University of Miskolc. Together with her former university classmates she won the first prize at an international folk contest in Spain. In 2007 she released an album in Hungary which became very succesful. Csezy's songs rotated in Hungarian music tv channels for weeks. Her entry for Eurovision Song Contest Candlelight was composed by Viktor Rakonczai and Imre Mozsik. Below you can read the whole interview with Csezy.

Why did you decide to take part in the Hungarian national final?
"
This wonderful track is actually my first CD''s title song and I guess, perfectly fits to a festival like Eurovision so I decided to show it to a wider audience."

Was it a valuable experience for you as an artist?
"
Yes of course, these three minutes were the most exciting three minutes of my life."

What does representing Hungary in Belgrade mean to you?
"
It's a great honour for me to represent my country in front of the European audience."

Could you tell us something about your song Szívverés (Candlelight)? What is the message of this song?
"
It's a beautiful ballad about true love...is there any other message necessary?"

Why have you decided to sing your entry in English in Belgrade?
"
More people understand English than Hungarian and I want to share my message with as much people as possible".

Do you have any special plans for the promotion of your song?
"
My way is very simple and easy. To be open and sincere. Hope the people like it".

Are you planning anything special for your performance in Belgrade?
"
The set up and costumes are still in the stage of planning and preparation."

Are you a fan of Eurovision Song Contest? Do you have any favourit Eurovision  songs?
"
Yes, I've never missed the chance to watch the finals. I think this is an excellent opportunity for artists to present themselves to wide variaty of audience and to people in different countries to get to know the wide variaty of artists. The last year Serbian winnig song was one of my favourites."

And finally, is there anything you'd like to say to esctoday.com readers?
"
Listen to my song in the festival and don't forget to vote!"

I've played the video clip on this page, and it is very disappointing.

When I first heard the song here on esctoday.com, they had posted the offical video of the song- which I thought was completely amazing. However this live preformance feel like a preview of the night at the contest, and it is really poor.

I think Hungary will need a lot of luck to do well with this song. Very Unfortunate

Erm, this song sounds dated. May it be just the performance and clothes?

I don't think Hungary will qualify for the final...

@Jan 1964: that`s also my meaning. this song should be sung in hungarian language. ESC has enough english titles. ..all the same phrases of love and feelings.. no one needs another english lovesong. it`s a shame that hungary will be now one more of the NOBODY-english-titles-countries. hungarian language ist something special, it sounds very good. and the hungarian words are a piece of magic of the song. could only hope that she will sing a part of it in hungarian - maybe!!! viszlàt!!! ...ès nèm jò csèzy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it is a big honour to represent your country you should sing in Hungarian.

Poor Csezy, the fans on this site don't seem to rush to this thread posting their fascination with and enthusiasm for 'Candlelight'. I still don't like the English title, and the song is somewhere half down on my 2008 list ... stuck in the middle of a petty and out-dated vintage that turned sour even before the tunes were cobbled together. (The one exception being of course the Turkish entry.)
Anyway, good luck Csezy!
