Second semi final aired

Supporters of German finalists and broadcast details revealed

The five celebrities to (mentally) support the five participants in the German national final on 6th March have now been revealed by broadcaster NDR. These five personalities will introduce the participants on stage and try to convince the audience to vote for them. Furthermore, it has been announced that both semi finals of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest will be aired.

Supporters

The idea of famous supporters is not new and has already been used several times in the German national final: in 1985, when the contest celebrated its 30th birthday, the twelve entries were introduced by twelve different for German representatives and from 1989 until 1991, when Hape Kerkeling hosted the shows, various TV personalities announced the entries. This year, we have a mixture of both ideas, as the supporters are:

  1. Katja Ebstein (singer) for Carolin Fortenbacher
  2. Oliver Pocher (comedian) for Marquess
  3. Marc Bator (news anchor) for the No Angels
  4. Tetje Mierendorf (comedian) for Cinema Bizarre
  5. Kim Fisher (comedian) for Tommy Reeve

Katja Ebstein is the singer who represented Germany the most times in the Eurovision Song Contest: in 1970 with Wunder gibt es immer (3rd), in 1971 with Diese Welt (again 3rd) and in 1980 with Theater (2nd). It is also said, that her participations will be especially honoured in the national final.

Broadcasts

Broadcaster NDR will air both semi finals of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. However, only the first semi final, where Germany has voting rights will be broadcast live, the second semi final will only be repeated at 0:45 CET. In Southern Germany, NDR can only be received via satellite and that's why a webcast will be made available too, also for the national final.

Germany was represented by Roger Cicero in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest with Frauen regieren die Welt, who finished 19th in the final. However, Germany will directly enter the final of the Eurovision Song Contest as one of the big4 countries.

1 Marquess - La histeria
2 Cinema Bizarre - Forever or never
3 Tommy Reeve - Just one woman
4 No Angels - Disappear
5 Carolin Fortenbacher - Hinterm Ozean
this is the order I would vote in. Forever or never is maybe something different, but it could have been a TatU song, Carolin is bad, no angels boring, tommy very beautiful, but not esc and that's it. Marquess is the only one that got stuck while listening to it. though spanish from germany isn't really helping to remember the song being from germany. we'll see.

There was an online voting at bild.de, a big German newspaper, about who should win the German national final. Online votings are of course not very reliable but nevertheless I think the result is interesting.

http://www.bild.de/B(...)ix-vorentscheid.html

1. Cinema Bizarre: 51.67%
2. Carolin Fortenbacher: 24.69%
3. No Angels: 18.42%
4. Marquess: 3.65%
5. Tommy Reeve: 1.57%

That Cinema Bizarre got so much more votes than the others could to some part be explained with their very young fans. They tend to be more enthusiastic about supporting their favourites than older people. Nevertheless the clear advance is impressive.

I think Carolin Fortenbacher has also very good chances to win the national final. Her fan base is probably very small because she isn't famous and she nevertheless got a quarter of all votes. So her song must be popular. And she will also get probably votes from older people at the national final who didn't have voted online.

I don't think that the No Angels will win the national final. They have much more fans than Carolin Fortenbacher and were still getting fewer votes than her. So it doesn't look good for them.

Marquess and Tommy Reeve probable haven't a chance, too. They are far behind the other three.

1 Cinema Bizarre (can do better than Carolin)
2 Carolin Fortenbacher
--------------------------------------------------------------------
3 Tommy Reeve
4 No Angels
5 Marquess (Please, what's this? Worst than El Chiki Chiki!)

Good luck Germany. Hope for a good decision.

It has to be Cinema Bizarre.
I hope Germany don't pick the wrong song like a lot of other countries this year. Forever or Never is head and shoulders above anything else in the final.

Wow Deutschland has got a really strong line up this year- so fantastic 2 see atleast one of the big4 takin it seriously this year :D
No ambigiguities here tho i am totally 100% in support of cinema bizarre (Florian i know you will hate me :P lol), yes they are a trashy copy of tokio hotel, yes they are extremely confused boys in the gender department but hey forever or never is FKN awesome hehe, and ive listed to their other two songs and am a fan- yes they maybe a lil copying tokio hotel but then again the whole world music indusrty is about imitation these days- come on germany " you better make it now or never" ;) you guys will be in with a big shot at winning!

Fun idea about celebrity supporters. :)

All German songs are glossy and reliable to varying degrees - I too think CB are the most potent of them all as an entry.

@ Max:

Well, I fully agree here, this "joke" is tasteless indeed... he clearly crossed the line here!

Hmm, i thought it was going to be a good competition but as I heard the songs, I was totally subdued... Well, a guess a casting band cannot be anything more than a casting band... and such a band has mediocre songs without a soul... too bad for the No Angels. And to me, bands like Cinema Bizarre have no charisma, it's all just about pretending, it makes me sick.

And I guess the few true German stars will never show up again. A band like Rosenstolz will refuse, although they particpated once back in the 90s, when they lost to Guildo Horn, I think...

@ Tom K - Marc Bator *is* cute, just not when he's reading the news...

I can't stand Oliver Pocher...
