Live: Latvia decides for Eurovision
The show
The show starts at 20.15 CET and it will see ten hopefuls fighting out to succeed Bonaparti.lv in the Eurovision Song Contest for Latvia. The selection will be conducted in two phases. Three of the finalists will proceed to the super final where a second round of voting will decide the winner. As it is the 50th anniversary of the Panorama news programme on Latvian television the postcards will be in "news style" this year.

Live coverage
And the show has started with last year's participants. Bonaparti.lv perform Questa notte in the exact same outfits they wor on Helsinki stage.
1.Deja vu - I’m a part of you
The first to go are the girl band Deja vu. I'm part of you is a ballad, one of the many we will see tonight. All three ladies are dressed in long black dresses and their voices blend excellently. The song is not strong enough to expect a high placing on a Eurovision stage but it does have some advantages, such as strong vocals (flawless throughout the entire song) and an interesting bridge.
2.Kristīna Zaharova feat. Julian - Until you find a friend
second song, second ballad. Kristina is very confident on stage and vocally perfect. She is accompanied by Julian who plays the guitar. She is moving gracefully around stage with her long turquoise evening gown flowing.
3. Sabīne Berezina - If I only knew
Third song and guess what? Another ballad. The running order is just killing them by having them one after the other. Another slow ballad, excellently performed by Sabine.
4. Pirates Of The Sea - Wolves of the sea
The hot favourite of the evening now, one that many predict, others hope and some even fear it will win. Pirate costumes, hey hey and ho ho's but very weak vocals and the voice coordination needs certainly to be worked on. The show is fun, the song is rhythmic and memorable and it is nice to see Bonaparti.lv Roberto Meloni again on stage. The pirates seem to be having a great time and the crowd seems to love it.
5. Peter Garden & Juris Vizbulis - Memory lane
Memory lane is the fourth ballad of the evening, and an old fashioned one as is. Very weak vocals from both singers and a ballet dance routine for this song. The song follows the same recipe as this year's Romanian entry, with a tenor singing parts of it but it is nowhere as strong as Pe o margine de lume.
6. Funky Drivers - Summertime
A chill out, jazz song next by the Funky drivers. A very pleasant tune and great vocals by Maija Gaile. The predominant instrument of the show is a big, white tuba. The song is indeed summery and sweet but it is received lukewarmly by the audience.
7.Triānas Parks - Bye bye
Clockwork orange outfit and makeup now for a rock number by Trianas Parks. An energetic act, higly repetitive, accentuated by the theatrical performance of the lead singer who ends the show holding up a puppet, rings a bell?
8.Elizabete Zagorska - Take me home
Elizabete dances with the stars in Take me home. In a bright red dress she sings and dances with her male partner. The song is much better than in the video clip but still her voice does not help bring out the best in the song. She finishes the song with a high note cut short and a passionate kiss to the partner, nice!
9. Aisha - You really got me going
More pop rock now by Aisha. An interesting song and a good show by the entire band. Aisha moves confidently on stage and does an excellent job with the performance of the song which offers a good dancing rhythm. By just listening to the song one can picture Gerli Padar singing it (Estonia 2007). Judging by the reaction of the audience this one should go through to the super final. And now it is time for the last song.
10. Andris Ērglis - Broken lullaby
Another early fan favourite now. A powerful, sentimental ballad by Andris Erglis, another Bonaparti.lv member, who is completely alone on stage. A charismatic performer, superb vocals, a good song and an enthusiastic reaction by the audience.
The recap now and the first round of the televoting which will send three of the songs to the final. We have a lot to look forward to tonight as there are many special guests from past and future Eurovision Song Contests invited.
And to the Super Final go:
Aisha- You really got me going
Pirates Of The Sea - Wolves of the sea
Andris Ērglis - Broken lullaby
As it was highly expected.
Aisha is on again. The song is great to dance to and Aisha nails it once more to the last high note. And now the Wolves of the sea plunder the stage once more. It is definitely a particular song, uplifting and rhytmic, can't help bring to mind Mercedes Club from this year's Icelandic preselection. The weakest link of the act is definitely Aleksandra Kurusova, the female pirate, who is mostly off key. And Andris comes back on stage last, a lovely song indeed, powerful and well performed. One question though, wouldn't that make it one ballad too many in this year's Eurovision Song Contest?
Another pirate takes the stage now, Jeronimas Milius from Lithuania with his Nomads in the night. He is followed by Tereza Kerndlova from the Czech Republic with Have some fun. They are both received very warmly by the audience who cheers when the Azerbaijani Angel and Devil are announced. Elnur and Samir take the stage to perform Day after day. "Latvia we love you" sings Elnur and leaves the stage for Morena from Malta who performs Vodka.
Time for the results now. And the winner is Pirates of the sea with Wolves of the sea.

@Steven Spiteri,
Well she was dressed the same as in Maltese final. Black outfit. Vocaly good, but I'm affraid guests weren't singing live and so wasn't she. Czech Republic had improved the song, sounds really good.
I also watched the who.
Aisha was my absolute favourite. Pity she did not win.
Yes, yes, yes! Morena was great. Vodka has become my number one favourite. It sounds stronger than ever! Well done Malta.
Was MORENA's performance GREAT...can someone reply back and describe what was wearing and whether she carried a strong performance?
It seems like more and more countries send an entry that is chosen by drunken televoting people.
BRING THE JURIES BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!
Pirates!!!!...Just wondered what was missing this year. Sounds a bit Rednex or AQUA and i actually think this will qualify...though i don't like it that much.
2008 is "cirkusvision"
Oh God, this is not a good choice.
Didn't know that it could get worse, but this is the worst song chosen until now.
As for today's guests, Teresa confirmed herself, a great entry. I listened the Maltese Vodka for the first time till the end. Well. not as bad as I thought earlier. Same I could say about the Azeris, but not the ESC formate. Jeronimas... what a mistake...
Yeah! This is awesome! Thank you Latvia..^^ Now I have something to vote this year.
OMG Latvia did choose the pirates... Horrible Horrible Horrible
Latvia has chosen the Pirates. Must have been sounding cool enough. Unfortunately Latvia is very likely not to qualify to this year's finals.
Marcus.. yes.. and I really think it's a pity cause like I just said I like the song a lot.. it's a bit musical style and I love that!! Anyway.. let's see what Latvia will choose!
@ Desiree
I agree with you, Jeronimas doesn't have a good voice at all. In a way his voice is really aching in the ears
Fan since 1976, I agree with you 100%.
Unfortunately, my country is the bottom of this years ESC.
After our 2006 national final, I cried. Last two years I didnt even watch it, to save myself from any other frustration.
I really hope other countries, like Latvia, would choose a good song.
I hope for Andris Ä’rglis to win.
no results yet? I thought they were to come any minute.. and how was jeronimas.. better than at the lithuanian finals? I like his song a lot but I just think he ruins it a bit..
<i>"Wouldn't that make it one ballad too many in this year's Eurovision Song Contest?"</i>
After some nerve-wrecking years and several entries of that kind also this year, it would be a relaxation to get some more music. Instead of hysterical choreographies, circus-like gimmicks and costume changes all 60 seconds.
After having a ballad as the winner, which was quite pathetic, boring and kitschy, some ballad authors of another quality see now their chance.
I hope it will be finally a glamorous contest again instead of a cheap dance party.
I LOVE Wolves Of The Sea! It's like an Aqua or Capitain Jack song. Like the good old 90s eurodance. I think it could win the whole damn thing!
oh my god, tereza kerndlova's song is simply ruined......
Why do people hate the pirates so much? I would love to see them in the ESC *o_o* The song is catchy and well...jolly. I have listened it over and over again for the past couple of days and I love the song more than any of this year's ESC songs.
Show is great i like hosts
so happy to see Latvian final 1st time in 3 years i was in UK
but well OK
Results-
3rd Place-Erglis
2-Aisha
1st PIRATES welcoe to RIGA 2009
all latvian entries were horrible or boring...... whoever wins i cannot see a good result for Latvia!
Latvia still has a good chance to choose a better one, say, Aisha or Erglis. The televoting is on.
The Pirates are really a pain in the a...! Horrible
And what did they do to the presenters? Is it carneval in Latvia?
But the stage looks very nice at least.
Will Latvia join the Baltic Bottom of this year's ESC?
Aisha got to kick the Pirates out the boat. And Broken Lullaby is perfect for insomniacs.
Did you see, the Pirates, Erglis and Aisha are leading in televoting.
