Latvia decided: The Pirates to Eurovision

Eirodziesma, the Latvian final has just finished. After a first round of voting which sent three of the finalists to the Super Final, Latvia decided to send the Pirates of the sea to the Eurovision Song Contest this year.

Ten acts competed tonight for the chance to represent Latvia in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. Three were voted to the Super Final : Aisha, Pirates of the sea and Andris Ērglis. After a second round of voting it was decided that the next Latvian representatives are the Pirates of the sea with Wolves of the sea. The band won the semi final by a landslide and it was highly expected they would win the final as well.

The pirates are Aleksandra Kurusova, Jānis Vaišļa and Roberto Meloni. Roberto participated last year as part of Bonaparti.lv. In the super final Andris Ērglis came third, followed by Aisha in second place.

DON'T WORRY LATVIA!
Remember, you've big support from Lithuania. ;) We've too from LV. We're neighbour, we're BALTISH. ;P ;)

Move over Dustin, best novelty song of the contest has arrived. I can see this doing very well indeed. Great hook. Once again Latvia sends something different which is likeable. Won't win, but good luck anyway.

@GeeOh

It's not true that all the "circus" acts end in the Top10. Remember, Silvia Night failed in 2006 and she didn't pass to the final; and last year Scooch ended in the bottom. I think "circus" acts could be successful depending on the country they represent because I'm convinced if Verka would represent Andorra she didn't end 2nd...

I think this is by far the best of of the novelty entries so far this year. It's not my favorite of the second semi (Switzerland and Malta are too good), but I think it'll qualify.

I think that this song can make a good result in Belgrade, a good song to have fun in any case.

I think lithuania will surprise europe... and Jeronimas has a wonderfull voice... I believe he can win... about Latvia... well it is a shame there were better songs... like broken lullaby and bye bye

Well,not that bad and not that good,but far better than Estonia! Latvia,You know,You have support from Lithuania ;)
And P.S. I still hope that Jeronimas will bring us the very first victory with 'noamnds in the night" this year.He has a strong voice and everything should be fine in semi.It's a song ,at least.:]

@cst 003,
Well I don't see any copy here. Verka's song was good beats and a pair of meaningless words, but this one has a text. OK, maybe childish, but have. At least it's a song. If you want to compare than Estonia and Ireland are those who have songs almost without any meaning at all...

Why all this circus this year??? Verka was one and only! Why do these countries just "copy" an idea? And why doing it right a year after Ukraine did it! I really cannot understand that thing...
Sorry Latvia...

I haven't heard the song, so all I can say is that Roberto is a nice guy (I met him in Helsinki) and I'm happy for him. :-)

Well, this video is from semi-final. Final performance was bit better.

Well, if there are 10 circus acts, it may just happen that all of them fail to reach the finals, the votes being divided between them. It's just a pity that we have to listen to them all!

Very stupid yet very catchy at the same time ... nice costumes too, and could work with a good choreography!

I couldn't agree more dear GeeOH!! This year the show should get a new name...ESCircus! But, at least, among the other awful songs of this upcoming competition, this one is not the worst...when you don't look at it, it sounds....acceptable, kind of an Acqua style song (remember Barbie girl?)....
The problem is, as someone already said, that these crappy, ridiculous "songs" end up always in thge top ten...so either some Eurofans became too romantic (me too...), or the show is just degenerating...we'll wait until May to decide...
Good luck to everybody!

Circus Eurovision...Alf Poyer, LT United, Lordi, Verka, and some others. And this year Kreisiraadio of Estonia and this childish song by the Pirates. And the sad part is..the circus and ridiculous acts end up in Top 10 every time :(

Another crap song, but among the real collection of craps of this year, it's not the worst.
What an awful ESC we'll have this year, ougghh!!

@ R L

"When I heart it first - I thought it's crap, but I said for myself "Hey... we're Baltic States. We rock"
Support from Lithuania. :] "

>>> And there you have just shown everyone what is wrong with Eurovision now! Lets vote for friends and neighbours no matter how crap the song is. Your killing ESC.

Ahoy matey! ;) Following the main character of Jack Sparro ((a.k.a. Johnny Depp :)) and the gang of the three P.O.T.C. films, they were ... inspired to become Latvian ESC Pirates of the Sea! Who can blame them?

Good luck! Aye matey!

Ayka F,
I never said I had. I said many people here think that they believe they have hell of a good taste in music liking those borring Balkan songs every year. They think good song is either uuuuuu ballad or bam bam rock song, others are just trash. But that's Eurovision, every entry counts: pirates, turkeys freaks, europop etc.

Ayka F [23816]
Sun 2 Mar 2008 21:12:41

If you consider Lejla, Lane Moje, Rijeka Bez Imena, Mojot Svet, Molitva & co. stupid Balkan type ballads..... I don't know who has the best music taste.....!?!
