Germany sends the No Angels to Eurovision!

The German national final for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest was held tonight. Five acts presented one song each and the televoters decided to send the No Angels to Belgrade with the song Disappear written by Remee, Hanne Sorvaag and Thomas Troelsen.

The winner was chosen in two rounds of televoting. In the first round, the top two were selected: Carolin Fortenbacher and the No Angels. After the second round,  the No Angels were chosen as overall winner.

Apart from the five supporters of the singers, Marc Bator, Kim Fisher, Tetje Mierendorf, Oliver Pocher and Katja Ebstein (Germany 1970, 1971 and 1980), many other former Eurovision Song Contest entrants appeared in the show: Ruslana, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 for Ukraine, Charlotte Perelli, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 for Sweden and currently contestant in this year's Melodifestivalen and Marija Serifovic, winner for Serbia in Helsinki. Furthermore, Roger Cicero, who represented Germany in 2007, was a guest.

The No Angels are the most succesful German girl group ever. They were the winning band of the first season of Popstars back in 2000 and had many hit singles and albums before they disbanded in 2003. Most of the singers started their solo careers and had success on the charts. In 2007, four of the singers - Lucy Diakovska, Nadja Benaissa, Sandy Mölling and Jessica reunited and reached #4 on the single charts with Goodbye to yesterday. They won't be the first Popstars winning band to take part in the German national final, previously Overground (2004) and Monrose (2007) tried to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Although Germany is a big four country and therefore directly qualified for the Eurovision Song Contest final on 24th May, the country has voting rights in the first semi final on 20th May, too. In 2007, Germany finished 19th with Roger Cicero and Frauen regiern die Welt.

Well. Typical European pop song. But I suppose Europeans like that...
The red hair girl is rather cute, though.
Viel Glück von einem portugiesischen Freund.

@Sandra
why should german tv invite Charlotte to sing some album track that nobody in germany cares about. It was an eurovision preselection, so of course she was invited only to do her winning song from 1999.

@ Night Elf
Oh really? Yes, I didn´t know. But I think, it´s still bad. We have a great Music Industry, so why? Should it be the last Try or something? I´m not the only Person, that says, that German is a nice Language. Even People abroad think that. & Top5 would be impossible for Germany, even with the greatest Song in the World. We have not the 5-7 Countries, that give us 10-12 for free.

Looks like the Final Is already shaping up real great!
With good entries this year so far from the Big 4 - UK / France and Germany. You underestimated the power of the Big4....

WOW!

Well done Germany!- It's a great song, and with an amazing performance on the night you should do very well.

You deserve at least a top 15 position- but as you know that all depends upon the voting!

Nice song, although sung in English :-(. As far as I know No Angels are very popular in Germany, maybe the ESC isn't so unpopular after all!

I prefered Carolin Fortenbacher, awesome Vocals, a classic Ballad (Piano, Strings) and sung in the original language

Thinks are improving this year in comparison with the early entries. Good choice of Germany. Let's see tomorrow Spain, I hope La Casa Azul with their Revolución Sexual, in order to achieve the same good quality that the other countries of the Big 4

An average song, nothing special. but probably the more you'll hear it, the more you'll like .
I'm a bit disappointed for the language..I would have preferred a song in german language..what a pity
