Huge name in French music world

France: Sébastien Tellier to Eurovision

France Télévisions will send Sébastien Tellier to the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade. The news was confirmed to esctoday.com today by French Head of Delegation, Bruno Berberes ahead of a press conference later today. We will represent France with the song Divine, which will be the first time the French song is sung fully in English.

Sébastien Tellier is a very strong name in the French music industry. He has worked closely with world leading bands, Daft Punk and Air, two of French music's greatest exports in recent years. The song was released on the his new Sexuality album, produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo, one half of famous French duet Daft Punk. The album is currently at number two in the French chart, and is at number 77 on the itunes UK album chart.

This is quite an unusual but not strange choice for this kind of music, electro-pop, is the French music's most successful export. The music industry considers  Tellier to be an established master of the “French touch,” for he has already published three albums (and a few film soundtracks). The newest was released on February 25 and has already ranked 1st place on iTunes.

According to Bruno Berberes, French Head of Delegation, who will shortly give an interview to esctoday.com about the selection process, “we deeply believe in this entry and, would this choice confuse French ballads lovers, it will help with a giving the contest a new lease of life in France”.

Wonderful song, if I would vote in ESC I would vote for this, no doubt.
A shame I have never voted before though, and prolly wont this year either =(
Could be my first vote ever though =)

This song is too French to go down well in Eurovision.
Which is a shame, because it'd be good to see something different in Eurovision...

But i agree with Knut Viking, I'd choose Les Fatals Picards any day!

Actually I preferred France last year - that was a really nice song! I don't find this very interesting. And I dont think this will do well at all. Sorry France.

Catchy, different, not seems the classic Eurovision entry...the more you hear it the more you like it...turkeys and chickens should get in the oven...
At least a few songs ,like this one, stand out of the LOOOOWWWWWW level of this year's contest....
Good luck....

@Hermès [reloaded]
La difference avec 1996, c'est que le breton est une des langues de la France. En 2008, c'est le choix de la langue dominante pour plaire a la majorite qui est deja soumise. Ceci dit, j'aime la chanson.
The difference with 1996 is that Breton is one of the languages of France. In 2008, it is the choice of the dominant language in order to appeal to the majority that is already subjugated. This being said, I like the song.

I've listened to the song again and again and it's really catchy. I had lost hopes for ESC 2008 inicially, but after Turkey, Bosnia and now France were revealed I am happy! Maybe they aren't winners, but they are definitely going to be listened to a lot by me! :)

the song WILL BE PERFORMED IN BOTH FRENCH AND ENGLISH IN ESC. Eurovision.tv writes that... so this WILL BE IN FRENCH TOO!!!!!!! I think this song might do very well :)

Oooooooo... nice approuch from France this year. I do like this song because it's different and it might stand out!

France will NEVER get Nil points as longs as Portugal, Israel, Albania and Belgium are in the Eurovision!! LOL

I hope France do well.

Still want Reykjavik, London or Osko 2009 though.... hehehe :)

If France is ever gonna get 0 points (purely on song) it would be with this one BUT this year there are so many crappy songs they might just get away with it

OK, I must admit I love the song, even though I fear it is not the right one for the ESC (it sounds somehow too sophisticated for the contest to me). But I'm sure that it would be a lot more charming if sung in french. Why not translate it?

God bless the ESC!
Tellier is just fantastic, hypnotizing music, so beautiful. Divine is a masterpiece, like all of his music.

You've just listed my top 4. :-)
But I have to confess that I have a soft spot for Albania, too. It's this Balkans' ballad thing for which it seems impossible to find a remedy for once poor togravus is exposed to it ...

@ Morgan S. Trouillet
Seems as if we have the same favourite ESC members. I am really glad, too, that the bunch you've mentioned (including yourself) is still around. Without them, I wouldn't be here either.
Cheers

I'm looking forward to see you in Amsterdam.
Remember, you have always your fans from all over the world.
