No Angels at #12

Germany: national final entries in the charts

About one week after the German national final, four of the five songs presented have reached the charts. The winners of the national final and German representatives at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest are currently at #12 with Disappear.

The current standing in the German single charts:

 • No Angels - Disappear at #12
 • Marquess - La histeria at #20
 • Cinema Bizarre - Forever or never at #44
 • Carolin Fortenbacher - Hinterm Ozean at #71

The only national final song that is not in the charts yet is Just one woman by Tommy Reeve, but his single was released only on 9th March making it impossible to reach the single charts this week. If he manages to enter the charts this week, it will be the second time overall that all entries in the German final enter the single charts (the first time being in 2004). For Carolin Fortenbacher, who finished second only 1.0% behind the No Angels, it is her first appearance in the single charts.

Furthermore, Disappear is currently at #63 in the Austrian single charts and La histeria at #82 in the Swiss single charts.

Commercially, however, this year appears to be commercially less succesful than 2007 and 2006: In 2006, No no never became the second most sold single of the year and was a number one hit while in 2007, two of the three national final entries entered the top 10: Frauen regieren die Welt, the German entry, peaked at #7 and the Even heaven cries by Monrose even at #6.

Although Germany is a big four country and therefore directly qualified for the Eurovision Song Contest final on 24th May, the country has voting rights in the first semi final on 20th May, too. In 2007, Germany finished 19th with Roger Cicero and Frauen regiern die Welt.

Disappear is a decent pop song, but unfortunately it revelas its quality only after the 5th time running. That's too long for Eurovision these days. They would certainly do better with juries involved.

"Hinterm Horizon" has not much to do with Schlagermusik. It's a German sung ballad. That's it. Not everything sung in German is Schlager. The composer is Pe Werner best know for "Kribbeln im Bauch" which is a genre of German Lied (ermacher) or maybe German chanson in the best sense of the word. And of course, it's because of Fortenbachers voice it has written "muscial" all over it.

I don't think that Cinema Bizarre will get a really good place in the single charts. Their album with "Forever or Never" on it was already released on 12 th October. So their fans will probably already have their song.

But I think that the No Angels and Marquess will improve their places. The national final wasn't so long ago and both groups are still promoting their songs.

I like the song but after seeing them (No Angels) live -bad quality clip, but still- on the German NF (if I´m not mistaken) I was horrified. They sounded awful live. :(

Was this a bad night? Or bad sound? Are they known for good vocals...?

Germany is among my few Super-entries(5/5, Blue) this year, together with Sweden and France. This entry got QUALITY written on it!

I'll vote for Germany this year too!

Ansichtskartengruß. Goldgräberland. Übersee The German language used to be so beautiful. Alas, those days are gone.
Thank you, Carolin Fortenbacher.

Congratulations, Carolin Fortenbacher... It's very rare that German schlager ballads manage to be listed in the charts...

For the No Angels, I hope that # 12 won't be the peak, but that they'll go to Top10 next week...

I don't know the actual rules for sure, but I know, that the price of the item is important. So a deluxe edition of a record pushes a song more than a simple download....

Do the German charts work like the UK one were all downloads count so you gets songs entering the chart and then moving up as the single is released on CD

Oh, what is it today with ESCtoday?

Last day in the german chart week is thursday, the national final took place on the same day. So every sold single after the show, counts to the following week and we will have a hopefully improved peak in the next days....

I think "Disappear" is going Top 5 next week... ;-)

I'm not surprised, "Disappear" is pure drive time radio pop.

Actually I was wrong - now that we have the compete picture, this isn't a dent in Germany's balance of the last few years like I thought at first. Nice entry again.
