Interview on ITV1

Ireland: [UPD] Dustin the Turkey on UK television

Today at 12:50 CET (11:50 local time), Ireland Eurovision entry Dustin the Turkey appeared on UK television channel ITV1.

Today, being St. Patrick's Day in Ireland, Dustin the Turkey appeared on a daytime show in the UK.  He was interviewed on popular lifestyle show This Morning, hosted by Philip Schofield and Fearne Britton. Adverts had been appearing all morning which appear to show a new video.

INTERVIEW

Dustin appears between Philip and Fearne farting and belthcing. We see clips of the video version of Irlande Deuze Points. Also we hear Dana Scallon (Eurovision 1970) and Louis Walsh comments from Irelands National Final broadcast last month.

While the video is being shown we hear Philip describing Dustin as "to be funky, funny and sure to ruffle feathers in Belgrade."

Dustin: Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all!

Fearne: We know your half turkey and half voltcher, where do you come from?

Dustin: am 90% turkey actually. Did you see Louis Walsh making those comments about me, you know Louis is an unsufferable bore, but we're good friends.

Philip and Fearne: (laughing) Former winner in 1970, Dana is a big critic of yours.

Dustin: I think when Dana (Eurovision 1970) came back as Dana International (Eurovision 1998) was class/brilliant.

Philip and Fearne: (laughing) Why Eurovision?

Dustin: Well, the Irish economy was doing great when Eurovision was staged in Ireland during the 1990's but has gone down since we won and I want to bring it back home.

Philip: Are you a politician?

Dustin: Yes, I ran for President of Ireland once, I used to have a policy that i think every boy in ireland should have a date with  the Spice Girls but as I seen them upclose I changed my mind. I think every Irish boy should have a date with the Pussycat Dolls. Listen I was thinking of running for London mayor also, if Borris Johnson (UK politician) can do it, anyone can!

Fearne: Your meeting the UK representative for Eurovision today!

Dustin: Yes I'm meeting Andy Abraham later, in the hope that we can do a deal that the UK will give Ireland 12 points and Ireland will return the favour.

Philip: Well we're now joined on the phone by Orville the Duck (a puppet) a friend of yours. Hello Orville!

Dustin: Hi Orville!

Orville: Hi Dustin!

Dustin: How are you! How about you represent the UK next year?

Orville: I think that maybe a good idea! How about a double act?

Philip and Fearne: (laughing)

Dustin: Yeah! Why not? You better return that money you owe me!

Philip: Ok that is all we got time for, thanks Orville and thank you Dustin and good luck in Belgrade in May.

Like Verka supposed to say...

"I want you (EBU) to say: IRELAND, GOODBYE!!!"

And the same goes for Spain, Estonia, Latvia, Bosnia and Croatia!

I was very unlucky.
I checked the website in the morning, and at that time ESCtoday said that Dustin was coming on the show at 13:15CET, so I waited until 13:10 until I switched on my TV. When I didn't see it, I thought it may have been an early April Fool's joke.
But it looks as though I really did miss it!
By any chance (because they got the timing wrong) does this mean that the draw that took place early was actually just a trial run, and the offical one is yet to come?- I can wish can't I! Can you believe it, UK Second!

@ Adam James Jurgen Slack
"i think tht interview could be a little controversial
talking about gangin up and swapping the 12 points"

Why should it be controversial? Isn't that what all the Communist and ex-Yugo countries do year after year?

@ Scotty E
'It is the fact it is not a real person singing'

You do realize Dustin is a puppet thus a real person will be singing with Dustin on his hand. Dustin the Turkey is little more than a glove. There is no breach by having someone sing without being seen on stage thus Ireland can send it with no questions asked whatsoever. Get over it you ain't got a case against him. Enjoy it in May :P

"Dustin appears between Philip and Fearne farting and belthcing"

I always thought there was something common about Fearne Britton.

Hahahaha I found that interview funny hahaha.. Go Dustin!

Anyways for most countries and participants its about getting more points not selling cds anymore...!!! Eurovision was made for TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is the fact it is not a real person singing...just like ESC does not allow live animals on stage...

The lyrics are okay, not so dangerous

Ireland would not be able to send their second placed artist as the deadline is passed. They would pay a penalty sum and not allowed to go forward. Unless the guy who sings as Dustin actually sang as hismself...

An inanimate object cannot be an official entry. Spain's Estonia's, and the Latvian entry as much as they are not my taste are different because they are still human beings singing.

The interview on This Morning was so stupid. Orville!!?? Are people finding this entertaining, what has people's taste plunged too!!

ESC Mania [30527]

I think that it would a lot better if Ireland changed their entry to something more decent to prevent this year's esc becoming a laughing stock and avoid embarassment. The same applies to other nations with ridiculous songs, like Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, Latvia and Spain. I would like to see them send something that is very ethnic and represents their culture, which should achieve a good result. It is obvious that their already chosen entries will not win. Can we have something more promising please and which will show that you are taking the esc very seriously?

@ Peter Eriksson
Why would it be disqualified for its lyrics. There is nothing racist, sexually suggestive etc. And don't argue disrepute to the contest, bad acts? drag acts? Yeah I think this contest has had them.

Peter E [28468]

The reason why the Irish entry might be disqualified is becous of the lyrics! Not becous it's a novelty song!

Night Elf [43921]
Mon 17 Mar 2008 14:32:03

Let say that Ireland win this year... Do you think we would have any decent song next year??????????????

It's was ok with LORDI...than VERKA, but this year it gone too far....
Latvia, Ireland, Spain, Estonia, Bosnia.... what will happened next year... at least 10 countries will send puppets ...

By the way Leona Daly - "Not Crazy After All" is a great song...too bad Ireland didn't send her !!!

Why, should Ireland, not be in Belgrade?if not Ireland, then also stop Spain.Latvia, and Lithuania, and Croatia.they are all novelty song's also.i think what's wrong is that others feel Ireland, may soon have 8 win's in the contest.and they are jealous. i personally, feel that Sweden, has the best entry, and deserves to win.but if Ireland, win's i'll be happy.please remember Lordi, they caused controversy,by breaking the mould,as did Dana International, both act's got extra media attention, and as a result went on to win the contest.

DannyT [43795]

Dustin should not be disqualified and he won't be disqualified. It will bring in even more disrepute to the contest. Thank God Ireland has brought something to this contest (along with Spain) something that a good laugh can be had.
