Let's Plant a Tree!

Bulgaria: Elitsa and Stoyan - Faces for a new campaign

Elitsa Todorova and Stoyan Yancoulov, who represented Bulgaria very successfully in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, were chosen as the faces of Let's plant a tree campaign, launched on 20th March by the MPs club in Bulgaria. The initiative is organised by the Bulgarian Parliamentary Environment and Waters Committee, the Ministry of Environment and Water Affairs, and the State Forestry Agency.

50 million saplings are to be planted in Bulgaria through the Let's Plant a Tree! Campaign this year. Popular Bulgarian musicians Elitsa Todorova and Styan Yancoulov, who are known for their work for the environment, where chosen to become the faces of the project.

During the Bulgarian Parliament's national assembly on 20th March, Elitsa and Stoyan performed their latest song Earth. All present were given drumsticks as a gift and Elitsa led everyone in a improvised percussion performance which, reportedly, went exceptionally well. The duo, together with the members of the Bulgarian Parliament and local celebrities like Georgi Ivanov, the first Bulgarian astronaut, singer Valya Balkanska and Maxim Minchev planted the first trees in the immediate vicinity of the Parliament. " This is the noblest cause one can stand up for" said the duo, "we pray this becomes a tradition and every year, at the beginning of spring, trees are planted so that our Earth is clean". Elitsa and Stoyan will use income from their forthcoming concerts to buy trees for the reforestation of regions in Varna and around Sofia which were burnt or cut down. The duo appears in a special music video clip, produced by BNT, in which they appeal to the Bulgarian public to help protect the beauty of the Bulgarian forests.

Until the end of the year, Elitsa and Stoyan will be visiting Ireland, Saragosa in Spain, China, Greece and Australia. The duo's full tour schedule can be found here.

Great campaign-magical video, great Elitsa and Stoyan! The best duo in ESC. Their performance was on fire last year, I was so pleased to see so close, it was breath-taking. I love the way how the nature lives in their songs. Keep on good work, Bulgarian duo! :) You´re the best :D

Hmm... 2007 was a good year for Eurovision. We could do with another Sopho or Elitsa & Stoyan.

Good for them to be supporting the environment! Especially from this corner of Europe.. I visited Macedonia last year and was shocked by the amounts of roadside trash everywhere along the Skopje - Ohrid road... Hopefully they will set an example.

by the way, I thought the Greek stage was awful... no good graphics whatsoever, but the Finnish one - wow. I hope they win again :)

The stage animation looks cool, much better than the pictures we've seen before. Can't help thinking it's very inspired by the Helsinki stage, though.

last year's stage looked a bit crap until we saw the actual thing, same with greece.

Just wait and see how it looks on the nights before you judge it!

@J K

It is ok i think although i found Finland n Greece's stages much more inspired and innovative. This is a bit unoriginal imo and looks like last year's stage dont u think? Although it is 2 soon 2 judge it with all those colours and poor graphics...i cant even understand what those things in the back r! But i hope it will be a really nice one overall when completed! Good luck 2 them ;)

@ J K

It looks a lot like last year's stage. That's not a bad thing but there seems to be very little imagination put into it. The concept seems to be borrowed from the Finns.

Can they get any more amazing?

Their performance was one of the best and most memorable in Helsinki and now they are doing their best to make awesome music and to help the environment! True inspirations...

Keep the earth clean and let's plant a tree! :)
