Euroviisut success in the Finnish charts

Finland: Teräsbetoni hits number 1

Three Euroviisut related albums in the Top-5 is quite uncommon in Finland but it happens this week. Teräsbetoni’s new album enters the album chart at number one. This is their first number one album as both previous albums only made it to number two. In the singles chart Teräsbetoni’s Missä miehet ratsastaa failed to make number one debuting at number two four weeks ago and is currently at number four.

The biggest surprise this year is Vuokko Hovatta. Her debut album keeps climbing, now on its fourth week and hits number three followed by Movetron’s greatest hits at number four. Aikakone’s greatest hits double-CD completes the Top-40 album charts at 39.

Next week most likely also Mikael Konttinen’s and Cristal Snow’s debut albums will enter the charts as well as Kari Tapio’s new one while Hanna Marsh has yet to do so yet. Jippu’s second album will be also out next week.

In the singles chart Movetron’s Cubido entered the charts at number 15 but dropped out the next week while their previous single Ei kenenkään maa continues in the Top-20 for the 10th week

Lordi won fair...the song and the preformence was great thats why finland won.....
They deserved better place last year...Hannas song was also good. I think its ok that Finland sends rock/metal songs even though i´m not a fan of that kind of music....but i have to say that this is a bit too much of a hardrock song....its nothing that i want to hear its too extreem...sorry finland hope u send something better next year..good luck anyway

Great! :D Lordi was at the first position on the list when the band won in Athens in 2006.. there was a true ESC fever here.
Go Vuokko Hovatta and Movetron, you were my favourites in the Finnish final 2008. (L)

@ Finn P
Thank you for your support and kind words :)

@Melina ~
You´re right!

I'm not exclusively keen on some certain music styles and that's the reason why I often hear hardrock, too. It's not the genre I dislike, it's the song itself.
Well, dislike is a bit too harsh, I would say I'm not really into it.
I love Kabat for example and although I agree that Lordi's Hard Rock Hallelujah is a bit of a hardrock-pop-mixture I liked it, too.
It's good that Finland sends Teräsbetoni - it's always nice to see various styles represented in Eurovision - but this song lacks definitively something. It doesn't have the wow-effect, even on the tenth time I hear it, it feels like dry bread for me...

@DARKO: It means "reinforced concrete".
@Melina: I NEVER SPOKE ON ANYBODY ELSE BEHALF, JUST READ AGAIN MY PREVIOUS COMMENT.
Anyway, even if I was a Finn I´d never ever vote for these men. My favorites are Iceland and Turkey (the country).

Here's what it is: Finland has very resourcefully poached the pattern from Norway (Wig Wam) and is now exporting metal to Eurovision as its own brand. :P

Which is fine by me - a little industrial espionage goes a long way, hehe. My problem is I really don't like metal and all the songs sound exactly the same to me. That said, even I can distinguish that Wig Wam's song truly rocked, whereas Lordi - well, didn't quite, but made up visually for it. The song by Terasbetoni (does that mean Concrete Balcony in Finnish too?) - is somewhere in between - there are bits in it that I like, even as a sworn anti-metalist. Ultimately it's good to have a "rocking" entry, it adds to variety.

Go Finland!

You'll blow the plastic entries (Iceland, sweden, Armenia, Russia, Ukraine) off the stage this year!

It's official: FINLAND ROCKS :)

The very best of luck to Finland, who has the balls to sing in their own language for once!

And the fact that Teräsbetoni's ESC song was nr 2 in Finnish singles chart for weeks, and now their album is nr 1, truly proves that this IS the kind of music that is very popular in Finland!
(And, unlike some say, Finland definitely isn't sending it just to try to copy Lordi's success - what a pathetic comment.)

Also fully agree with El Diablo about comparing all the rock entries to each other, it truly is pathetic... ;)

GO Teräsbetoni, I know you will show Europe who TRULY rocks!!
I'm so proud of you, and I agree entirely with Euro Vision! :)

@ JP Laamanen & Elvis Lives (what a nick... ;)), neither can you claim to speak on behalf of Finns...! And I very much doubt those figures mentioned by JP Laamanen, as before the NF Teräsbetoni was the clear leader in every online poll... So what you're saying is that the majority of people suddenly changed their minds? ;) Somehow doesn't seem very likely...

And with the zero points comment, I really don't think Euro Vision meant it's "fine to be a loser", but that it's good to be able to be proud of your own entry, of their style of music, even if the rest of Europe wouldn't (for some strange reason) appreciate it enough... That's exactly how I feel as well.

I'm not keen on the Finnish song, even though I like rock. I must say Kabat's song last year grew on me though, despite being a 1-pointer, and it's one of the few songs I still enjoy listening to from last year.

I find it pathetic how certain people here compare every rock group to Lordi. Rock is not just one genre, it's a variety of genres. Lordi, Kabat and Terasbetoni are completely different in style from each other and cannot be considered copies of each other. If there's a country who seems to find it difficult to be original in this contest it's Serbia, which sends Balkan ballad year after year after year after year.

"We Finns are very proud to send Teräsbetoni to Belgrade..."
I'm wondering where you got that idea, because I'm not. I think we had better songs in our National Final.

According two newspapers in Finland (Helsingin Sanomat and Iltasanomat) people are not happy with Teräsbetoni.
Helsingin Sanomat had a poll, where 5400 people answered, and 86% was saying that our entry will not win ESC this year. Iltasanomat was asking if Teräsbetoni was the right choice to Belgrade, and over 5600 people answered with 67% said no. And in our National Final Teräsbetoni had only 38,9% of votes, so it won but not with a landslide.
So with those numbers I would say we are not very happy or proud with our choice and we are not gonna win.

I don't mind to have rock songs in ESC, because I think all kind of music should be there. But sending rock song after rock song is so lame and boring. Only plus of our entry is, that they are singing in Finnish.

@ Euro Vision:
"We Finns are very proud to send Teräsbetoni to Belgrade. "
Watch out your words! You can not speak on my behalf!

"Even if we get zero points again ;-)! It doesn't matter... #
That´s the problem with Finland. It does not take Eurovision as a COMPETITION. If you think it´s fine to be an eternal loser, that´s your opinion, but DO NOT SPEAK ON MY BEHALF!

Well, my friends...

It's so nice to read your funny comments about the worst song ever in the history of ESC. But, we Finns like this kind of music. I could say a lot of bad things about the songs from the south but I won't.

I like to see and hear different kind of music in the ESC. Everyone should be openminded in Europe, not only people from the north, right?

We Finns are very proud to send Teräsbetoni to Belgrade. Even if we get zero points again ;-)! It doesn't matter...

I don't like this song to be honest, but I like the very idea to see it at Belgrade in May because what Eurovision absolutely needs is a wide range of musical styles !
So thank you Finland to send something different !

Movetron and Crystal Snow were absolutely the best entries Finland could have send this year. Both songs are still in my head!
