Here comes 'Tanel Padar’s' The Sun
Estonia: Tanel Padar - New tour, release and criticism
Tanel Padar has been on promo tour in Finland this week before the real tour with his band The Sun in April. The tattooed, dressed in black rock star looks very different from the 19-year-old who won the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2001. With a deep tan from recent trip to Miami he sat down to several interviews for TV, local radios and magazines and has set his mind to make his band as popular up north as it is in the Baltic states where it has been nominated the Best Baltc act in MTV Music awards twice and has won 13 Estonian Grammy Awards so far. All their previous albums have sold over 10.000 copies in Estonia.
Tanel is also finally getting rid of his playboy image given him by the Estonian media after his Eurovision victory: model girlfriends, alcohol, endless parties in Tallinn by night, divorce, drunk driving and drugs have given the yellow press a lot of material to write about Tanel, who has been also voted the sexiest guy in Estonia. “Journalists can be so stupid at times” he says. “They don’t respect facts and make headlines out of nothing. I have been accused of doing things when I was not even in the country!” In the couple of past years they have focused more on his music with a little bit of politics thrown in. “We played for the NATO troops in Kuwait and Irak. It was a great experience to play to armed soldiers” he tells with a smile. The press at home was not so impressed.
The new album is the main thing in his mind now. “We were looking for a suitable producer for a long time and hooked up with Finnish Janne Joutsenniemi, who is an ex-member of Suburban Tribe and Stone. The album was recorded last fall and winter in Kalasatama, Helsinki. In Estonia the recording studios are holes in the underground, really miserable. Now we had windows outside, sea around us, sauna and Xbox! No need to go anywhere. It was wonderful” Tanel concludes satisfied.
Tanel thinks more Estonian artists should follow their example and get out of the garages and underground. “One must get out. Estonia doesn’t have great studios or producers and not enough knowledge of music business. There are many great musicians that will get nowhere. One must have courage to ask for a help elsewhere!”
The Sun’s new studio album Here comes The Sun is released on April 2 when they perform in Helsinki’s legendary Tavastia rock club. You can see The Sun on tour in April besides Finland in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Listen to the new album here.

Good luck Tanel. Your song was not the best in 01, but the performance sure put us on a good mood. Maybe next year better luck for Estonia with The Sun? Cuz you're right, this year is a disaster for u...
The most undeserved victory in esc history! I cant believe how europeans voted for "everybody" instead of antique that year!...it saaaax!
They don't mention it here, but in one interview I saw he said he supports the Finnish entry, and asked people to vote for that instead of Estonian entry, which he is ashamed of...
So, sounds like he has a good taste

Thank you!!! I'm sorry it wan't what you were looking for, but it's nice that someone read my comments for a change!
As for Tanel...well, I like the song (but then again I try to like all Eurovision songs) and it's my second favourite in 2001! I think it was only fair that Estonia won, it's a wonderful country and I think they were cheated in 2000, "Once In A Lifetime" was better than "Fly On The Wings Of Love" - which is still a good song, in my opinion. Actually it would have been a lot better if Estonia won in 2000 and Denmark won in 2001, but that's just me!!!
it's beeb more that 7 years now from his sucsess in 2007 - and he he is just a part of NOONEKNOWS bans --
Congratulations!!!
Euro Sheep ->> I saw in eurovision.tv but the cover is very small and only first side. But thanks
Good luck to him. In 2001 his song was not my fave, but it was such a lively cheerful act that it was a lot of fun, and is still fun to watch 7 years later. Unlike Molitva IMHO.
This year I hope Portugal and Switzerland do well.
re Iraq, there are a lot of things that could be said to criticise the Us and the Uk actions. But I don't think their forces are told to target kids or other civilians. How likely would that be to gain Iraqi or world support ? But we do know about the suicide bombs that actually target civilains - not done by the US or UK.
whi the heck is Tanel Padar...
"...popular up north as it is in the Baltic states .."
also known in some areas of Botswana...
I remember the voting in 2001. It was as if the whole continent got mad. Still don't understand the result. Great songs by Lithuania and Bosnia-H. But the biggest crap won.

WHAT KIND OF MAN SINGS FOR THE TROOPS?
LEAVE THAT TO B*TCH*S LIKE MARIAH CAREY AND JENNIFER LOPEZ
I muist be really screwed in the head, when back in 2001, Everybody was my favourite song, and i wasn;t even suprised Estonia won (and i am normally guessing very wrong, i am bad at it). Infact only many years later i realised how much people hate that song, which was the best for that night.
One of the worst and undeserved ESC- winner ever!
I couldn't believe how the voting went in 2001, I mean, almost each country voted for this!
The one and only winner in 2001 should have been- once more- Slovenia with Nusa Derenda and her powerful song "Energy".
France should have won in 2001.
I thought his winning song was actually quite good. For sure it wasn't as good as Turkey, Ukraine, Greece, Finland and Serbia over the last five years, but it was way better than Latvia's song in 2002!. I wanna was a completely **** song! Especially compared to Malta's 7th Wonder. Malta was robbed! Dreadful Euro voting in 2002!
There's a song by an American band called The Flaming Lips - "Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell" - which Tanel should have a listen to....
THAT SONG THAT HE WON WITH IS SOOO YUCKK
He is fabulous - it´s just the matter of taste :-)
Anyway,
i can see why he went over there...his songs r only suitable for scouts and illiterate soldi ers
playing for troops in kuwait and iraq?
So the silliest winner entry ever did indeed had the most bonehead singer too.
its the worst song ever that has won!!! sometimes i just can believe as europeans!!! he is awful!!!! email=luca_itl@hotmail.com]luca_itl@hotmail.com/email]
Congratulations Tanel Padar...
