OGAE Italy: 12 points to Switzerland

It's been a decade since Italy last participated at the Eurovision Song Contest but the official Eurovision Fan Club is still going strong in the country. OGAE Italy voted on this year's Eurovision Song Contest songs this weekend, and surprisingly, they awarded 12 points to the Italian language song from Switzerland.

OGAE Italy put Paulo Meneguzzi's entry Era Stupendo top of their poll, narrowly ahead of the host song from Serbia. Romania, who's language is close to Italian, took third place to score 7 points on the OGAE Scoreboard. Sweden, who took an early lead after the first three juries voted, were in fourth place, ahead of debutants, San Marino. The microstate's official language is also Italian, and they register their first six points. OGAE Italy voted as follows:

  • 12 points SWITZERLAND
  • 10 points SERBIA
  • 8 points ROMANIA
  • 7 points SWEDEN
  • 6 points SAN MARINO
  • 5 points RUSSIA
  • 4 points ARMENIA
  • 3 points PORTUGAL
  • 2 points ICELAND
  • 1 points ISRAEL

Just missing out:

  • ALBANIA
  • ANDORRA
  • UKRAINE
  • POLAND
  • SLOVENIA

After four rounds of votes, 20 countries out of 43 have already scored points. Sweden lead the table on top marks ahead of Switzerland, with the two countries locked on 39 points. In third place, but 16 points behind, is Armenia with 23 points. Serbia are fourth with 20 points.

@tolga. If we'd had the power to convince RAI, we'd never have stopped taking part in the first place. Unfortunately it's not easy at all!

@Molly Parton, you're right. It's not a matter of language. Last year we didn't like the latvian entry at all (sorry for Roberto Meloni who's a very nice guy). I'd rather say that Paolo is very popular in Italy and lots of people like his songs, so I suppose this was a very important factor in determining this result. Also, "Era stupendo" is a lot better than "Grande" which he sung in Sanremo.

I think OGAE Italy should do more to convince RAI to participate in ESC than voting for the songs...

Barry

It's not unsurprising that they voted for the Italian language song - last year they placed the only Italian song (Latvia) in last place out of 42. Doh!

Honestly I wasn't expecting such high points to Serbia from Italy at all, I'm all the more glad the song is appreciated there.

Meneguzzi got 12 points from Italy because he's half swiss - half italian, he sings in italian, but mostly because he's well known in Italy and his song has everything a song needs to become a hit in Italy.

That's for sure, in Italy (my origin country) we do love il Meneguzzo ;)
He has like, an army of fangirls, and I'am like a proud general lol.
No surprise there, Switzerland 12 points... Go Paolo!

In Greece (where I live) Italian singers like Ramazzotti, Pausini etc are well liked, so Paolo Meneguzzi could develop a fanbase as well. So, I hope...

I wish Italy voted in the ESC! But anyway, I'll just vote from Greece...

I really think everyone on this page needs to quit they're whining. These are polls taken by fans of Eurovision in each respective country. Of COURSE its not going to match up with the final points, but its interesting nonetheless. And Turkey probably isnt up there because the song not good ... Dimas song is tragic....Switz is polished... and Armenia's is catchy.... so if you really want to state your opinion, join your country's OAGE and vote. Otherwise, make it known in May...
