Applying for job of backing singer

Ireland: [UPD] Bosco to join Dustin at Eurovision?

Irish TV legend Bosco will make a special guest appearance this Saturday on the season finale of RTÉ TWO's 'The Once a Week Show'.

The former RTÉ children's TV star is an old friend of Dustin's and is apparently looking for a job as a backing singer when the Irish Eurovision hopeful performs in Belgrade next month.

Irish television viewers will be familiar with Bosco. The popular children's television puppet was a predecessor to Ireland's 2008 Eurovision entrant Dustin the Turkey, as Bosco had his/her own show back in the late 1980s early 1990s. Indeed Dustin and Bosco are no strangers to one another as this piece of video shows:

Bosco has rececently revived his/her career, after a DVD containing episodes of his/her was officially released in November 2005. This was followed up by a second DVD which was released in the run-up to Christmas 2006. There was also a CD released in 2006 called Bosco - Songs & Stories which featured some of Boscos favourite songs and for Christmas 2007, Bosco was back for a seasonal campaign at www.boscoisback.ie.

'The Once a Week Show' is on Saturday 26th April at 12:00 CET (11:00 local time) on RTÉ TWO television.

The show may become available online on 'The Once a Week Show's' official site here after Saturday's broadcast.

Dustin's single 'Irelande Douze Pointe' is in shops now. The song is also available for download from the Nokia Music Store where you can buy the track for €1 or listen to a 30-second clip for free. Visit via here.

When Eimar Quinn won, the BBC apparently mooted the idea of hosting the ESC in Belfast - I guess it would have been a co-production with RTE. Technically speaking of course this would have meant (and would still mean) that the ESC would be hosted in the UK and not the ROI, but it would still be on the island of Ireland of course. I'm not sure the BBC would 'claim the event was being hosted by the UK' as such - if anything I should imagine the BBC and RTE would use it as a way to showcase Northern Ireland as a destination in its own right and stress the idea of peace between neighbours north and south. I seem to recall the Irish Music Awards were staged in Belfast in around 2002 so it would be the first time that north and south united for a televised pop music event.

All hypothetical, though - I can't see Dustin or Andy winning in Belgrade!

I don't see any reason why RTE couldn't host the contest in belfast if they wanted to. This is 2008 people. However...I really don;t know why they would bother. Not that the UK or Ireland will win. Mind you CK...sorry but neither will Serbia, Russia or Armenia. Ukraine...well now there you migth have something.

given the quite good relations between north and south I think BELFAST would be an ideal location for the next ESC to be held in either UK or Ireland.

Although this year i think Andy A (UK) has a far better chance than people are given him.... true the song is boring and dull but the chap can sing and as we saw with ESTONIA's win in 2001 you dont need a good song to win..just good performance and singers

RTÉ is broadcast in the North but only by 1 transmitter which only covers small parts of Belfast, mainly West Belfast. Other areas would just have to get a signal from a transmitter in the Republic.

It does actually raise an interesting question though, could Ireland really host it North of the border? I can see Michael's point as the BBC has jurisdiction over the North, so if it were to be hosted would it be RTÉ paying for it or the BBC, or both? And would the BBC claim the event was being hosted by the UK?

@michael oboyle
there is nothing stopping rte running the show from belfast, rte is broadcast in the north. think of how many times the uk held the contest when other countries like monaco couldn't hold the contest. dervish, god bless them, even said that if they won they would love to take the contest to belfast.

Northern Ireland and the republic of Ireland are two different countries so if Ireland won, it couldn't be held in Belfast. If the UK won then it could be held in Belfast.

Lol, well apparantly when its finished its meant to be one of the best arenas in Europe. That said I wouldn't object to it being hosted in Belfast, it would definitly be a sign of the changing times in the North of Ireland.

The Odyssey makes the Point look like a shed :P
I will be very happy when Ireland wins, Dublin at least is closer than Moscow or Yerevan!

The Point will be back open again by January so we'll have a venue to host it next year. :)

Good move Ireland- rather than send a series of mediocre songs to ESC believing that they are good, better to send a REALLY bad song and pretend that it's funny. At least if Dustin bombs out in Belgrade then you can laugh about it- laughter is better than tears.

Bosco at Eurovision sounds like a great idea, just proves what a big farse the song contest has become. Good on you Ireland for sending Dustin!! hopefully it will make the EBU sit up and realise what it has become and finally get rid of the pure and simple stupid voting!!!!
