Will they manage to get the ice on stage?

Russia: Russian trio performs in Romania

Dima Bilan, Evgeny Pluschenko and Edvin Marton recently found themselves in Romania where they performed Believe in a way that could very well give a (very small) idea of the way the song will be presented in Belgrade, with ice and a Stradivarious violin. In an interview with Serbian Blic, Milan Pajic, manager of the Belgrade Arena, states that it will be known next week for certain whether the ice rink can be set and removed in the fraction of a minute required between songs in May.

Last year in Helsinki, the Lithuanian entry, Love or leave,  required a huge white screen to be set up on stage and that proved a great challenge for the Haartwal Arena crew who made it just in time. That took great coordination and perfect timing on behalf of the organisers. This year, the Russian act presents the Serbian organisers with an equally, if not more, difficult task. That is to get on and off stage in time the ice rink required for the performance of Believe by Dima Bilan. Today, Blic reports that it is still have not been confirmed that this will be possible: “We still cannot say for sure, but we will definitely know next week. Setting and removing the ice-rink takes thirty-six seconds, which is enough time. We think it is possible to do that, but we are still waiting to see whether we will be able to fit it in the program before and after the Russian performers,” says Milan Pajic, Arena manager.

i love this song... and the video clip... so good luck dima, good luck russia!

listen, i don't have any problem with those who don't like the song... it's an opinion, i respect it and i think that's normal that there are disagreements. but i think that he shouldn't be punished because his pronunciation isn't that good! you know, english is not my mother tonque either, so i understand that is difficult for him to sing in english if he doesn't know the language that good! so talk about the song and not his pronunciation or his knowledge of a language

I just do not like that song, it's so blend. And I can not stand that boy, pretending to be a singer, he is so arrogant, full of himself, his pronounciation of the English is below everything and than all the fuzz about the performance. And the way he has been chosen in Russia, I have a feeling it's not really fair.... But I presume that's Russia...

I don't know.......Sometimes I see him as a winner,sometimes-not...At first I was sure that he'll be the number one but step by step I started to lost my confidence. Not because of the song,I think its perfect. But when I read the posts about Dima on esctoday.com I really get frightened. I even couldn't imagine that there could be so many bad comments about him...... :(
Sure,I myself will vote for him.
Good luck for Armenia,Dima!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! ;)

OK song. But very very very OVERRATED.
Can´t see this as a winner, at all.

I think the most possible winners are:
Ukraine
Armenia
Switzerland
Serbia
Sweden

The Belgian visuals were great, I remember. I seriously doubt they would have been "refused" on grounds of artistic merit or for not fitting into the overall tone of the show. I think individual entries' technical and other requests should be met by all means - when and where they are reasonable, that is.

I don't know if Belgium's request was refused. But I know the graphics used during Eurosong were very large and are only suited for a very big screen. And judging by the images of the Belgradestage there is no such big screen available. Watch their performance on Youtube and you can see what I mean.

To those of you who are making claims about Belgium having their requests refused: where is your evidence? What are your sources? I don't see why a video wall image would be refused when it is just a case of putting some data into a computer.

I think all of these distractions in the song are unneccesary. They need to use the simple performance from the Russian national final. Personally I am not a big fan of this song, well actually the song isn't too bad, but Dima Nilan does my head in. His performance from the russian national final was pretty dire, especially towards the last chorus, he went really over the top. But hey, this song will probably do very well anyway.

Good luck to Russia from the UK :D

putting an ice rink is pathetic

Let´s see if I got it right: on the stage there will be Bilan, a violinist, an ice-skater and an opera singer... what a desperate attempt to inject life to a born-dead song!
Somehow I´m growing more and more concerned about the fairness of treatment all the participants will get. Shall I start crying FOUL??
@Fabio Deluca: you´re so right!
@Amiland + Galena: both of you are the favourite runners for this year´s biggest fool prize. Join forces and grab it, after all, only DK is the other entrant.

I heard something else DK, I heard that Ishatr asked for same kind of images om the vieowall, like they did on Belgian tv and the organsiation already told them that it does not go in line with the image of the whole show...

Well I think it's a disgrace if Serbia will allow this while others are refused. All same for the law and so also Russia. No privileges because they are political friends... It's a SONGcontest and no political friends contest. But he that was never very clear for Eastern Europe.

WELL THE FACT THAT MOST OF YOU PEOPLE DONT LIKE THIS SONG IS JUST BECAUSE IT DOESNT FIT IN THE AVERAGE ESC FRAME.ITS WORLD CLASS.THATS WHY YOU LIKE MORE THAT OLD FASHIONED SONGS THAT ARE IDEAL FOR ESC ,BUT NOTHING MORE.THIS SONG IS SOMETHING DIFERENT.SOUNDS MODERN,FRESH,NEW AND ITS STRONG.

@ Mongol boy

How you can judge the country by one person? The majority of his compatriots can't stand him either. And its well known how he managed to win National Final.

marc x [47152]
Thu 1 May 2008 10:11:48

I think this is absolutely discusting. A mediocre song, sung by a bad singer, his english even worse. On top of that he tries to pull away the tension fron his horrible song by all that extra crap. If Serbian organisation aloows this, there will be a war going on during eurovision. As Belgium asked for the same background images (as in their national final), and the organisation already rurned that down. Because it's not in line with the total concept of their show. Allowing that creep a icering on stage would be so unfair. But he it's Russia and we all know they always get a bit more, if not they throw some black money to the organisation and the ice will be there.... Don't we all love Europe and the original thought of being all equal....
