UK: James Fox to return to UK charts
Five years after his Eurovision entry for the UK reached number 13 in the UK charts, James Fox will return to the UK Top 20 chats with his new song Bluebirds flying high. The song is currently is in the top 15 of the unofficial UK midweek charts.
This will be the first time that a UK entrants have charted again under their own name after doing Eurovision for eight years. The last act to have a post-Eurovision Song Contest hit was Precious back in 1999.
James song Bluebirds flying high is a song dedicated to Welsh football time Cardiff City's success in reaching the FA Cup final.
Since appearing in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest, James has developed a successful career in musical theatre with appearances in the UK as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar and has been touring the USA as the leading role in the Billy Joel's musical Movin' Out over the past three years.

what the f has that got to do with it that not many swedish names are topping the UK or US charts?
sweden has produced more transatlantic chart toppers than most. and so what if some UK artists are doing well in foreign charts? a few years ago not many were (certainly not in north america)

This is about James Fox. Who I thought was ok- I didn't think his ballad was that special, and a stronger ballard came after him- also by a UK artist!
His is a likable performer.

But don't you ask yourself why Eurovision has no credibility within the UK music industry? Because of the BBC's awful attitude to it, eptomised by "Mr Eurovision" himself, the old fool Wogan. Swedish acts don't need Eurovision to get successful internationally but they consider representing Sweden because SVT has made it a prestige event that brings mega record sales. The BBC could do exactly the same. But it prefers to ridicule it and make the least amount of effort they can get away with. The result will be clear on the 24th, I'm afraid.

Sorry - as I said - BBC is a Public broadcaster - they cannot use the money from televoting as you suggest because of their charter. It isn't possible I'm afraid.

they wouldnt be "throwing money about" , cos the interest generated could easily be re couped by the televoting revenue alone. the bbc is so short sited its pathetic

Mr Wogan isn't the main reason why no serious artists enter ESC - the main reason is that ESC does not have any credibility in the UK music industry. You overestimate Mr Wogan far too much. lol. The 2nd reason is the humiliation they would suffer because off the voting issues.
You may not like Mr Wogan but for most people in UK (not ESC fans like you) he is the MAIN reason to wtach ESC.
Take away Mr Wogan and ratings would drop. Ratings drop and continued voting problems could equal UK withdrawl.
Be careful what you wish for if you want UK in ESC.

Yes - the BBC does have alot of money but not to just "throw around" - it is a public broadcaster remember not a commercial channel.
Besides - no amount of money would get the likes of Leona or Amy Winehouse or Duffy or Mika etc to enter ESC for the UK. They have a career and ESC does not have any musical credibility - all they can look forward to is the humiliation of a low score because of all the current voting problems.
I wish people would stop blaming BBC too or calling for "big stars" - it's just nonsense.

UK's entry in 2004 was one of my favs - much better than the awful Ukranian winner. It shows that a good song sung well is not enough anymore - you need gimmicks (or lots of friendly neighbours who'll vote for you regardless of the song)

absolutely right . wogan has rubbished esc for years with his incompetent and useless commentary for years now. hes the main reson why no onew serious will enter

Terry Wogan doesn't deride the UK acts though he was perfectly complimentary about Jemini in 2003.
Eurovision has ALWAYS had a reputation for being slightly backward when it comes to popular music in the UK. There are many more avenues in the UK for a talented artist to become successful than just Eurovision
@ Gary - no, the BBC has a lot more power and money to entice big names to the event, but as long as they alllow Mr Wogan to deride the whoile thing, they are fighting a losing battle...

The BBC can only work with those willing to enter.
it's a sad reflection on how BBC has dug us into such a deep hole that many of us would now get down on our knees to James Fox and beg him to sing for the UK again.
As a Cardiff boy and a euro manic, this is pure bliss! Go James, Go Cardiff City! Bring the english cup back to Wales, as you did in 1927!!

I hope he returns to ESC someday . . . . . . . . I also hope Jessica Garlick and Gina G return somedy. Or the best would be Bucks Fizz!!!!

It is the last only ballad the UK has sent recently. There was no dancing, school-children or aeroplane trolleys!!!!!
Unfortuanatley his song got lost in all sorts of dancing, fireworks, nudity and women on stilts! Shame

Expect him to stick more to musical theatre again.
James' song was unpretentious and very likeable in 2004. Unfortunately, people tend to forget and ignore such songs once the voting starts. Masks, fireworks, dramatic vocals, silly dancing routines, colourful dresses, and half naked barbie girls and ken dolls are so much easier to remember ...I still listen to 'Hold on to our Love' from time to time, and this is only true for about 20 % of all ESC songs. He definitely is in my 2004 Top 10.
Eurovision has come round very fast this year, it was exactly a year ago, at the time I am posting this comment, that the semi-final started last year!!!!!!
