I work with immigrants from Russia, Belarus, Estonia, Albania and Spain. Nonoe of them is interested in Eurovision. They don´t vote for it. All of this diaspora talking is a smoke curtain to hide the fact that Western citizens are lazy ones, who seem to believe that their countries will get points from some heaven knows who, when all that´s to do is pick up the phone and dial a few numbers. My family does not vote either. I´m the only crazy one who seems to care. On the other hand, I support one call = one vote.

Yeah, I think the technology is there because the EBU use it in junior eurovision. I read somewhere that in junior eurovision the amount of calls is limited to about 7 per phone. So the EBU could solve the debate, but the EBU are only interested in the money unfortuanatley :(

@Jonny K,
Good point! If the voting system was one vote per phone number then the whole dispute over neighbour/diaspora voting would have been disappeared. But is technology really there? I'm not sure.

lol, you could be right!!! British people are pretty dumb, I should know I live there!!!! And they would probably believe anything Terry says, because in the UK he is eurovision god!!!! :L :D

And lets not forget that this video is made by the EBU, so they are going to make the situation look better than it really is! ;)

DannyT does have a point. Immigrants make up a large portion of western votes, and its not that there are more immigrant voters, they just vote more times. And this is where the EBU needs to take action, because immigrants can vote as much as they want for their home country, and this needs to be stopped, the technology is there.

So yes, with western votes Serbia would have won, and the Serbian song was probably very popular with western europeans anyway, however western votes are more biased than they may appear.

Yes but last year UK gave Turkey 12pts and thats probably because it was in the mold of popular music in the UK and some people may have thought Terry Wogan was speaking the truth when he said Kenan Dogulu was the younger brother of Chris Moyles (Popular radio DJ)!

DannyT

I agree but that also says that they are more interest in Eurovision. I think if wester Europeans are MORE interest in Eurovision enough to vote more results would be different FOR SURE.

Of course Turkey would get pts from Germany in that case also, but 12 pts ??? Not if they don't deserve.

And in the end jury - televoting would be great choice.

As I say though immigrants are more willing to vote numerous times so I still believe the results aren't very reflective of how Western Europeans would vote. Do you not think it is a bit weird though how Turkey continually gets high marks from Germany or Lithuania from Ireland.

It should be one vote per telephone line or inclusion of juries

I wish you could watch it in full screen!

It's just unbelievable that there are more Armenians in Germany than Germans, or that there are more Romanians in Spain then Spanish ppl...

I think that truth behind this is that ppl in this countries are not interest in Eurovision so much to vote.

@ Night Elf
But considering the large number of Lithuanians in Ireland, Turkish and Armenians in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and France, Romanians and Bulgarians in Spain, Balkans in Austria and Switzerland and on and on .. How reflective were the Western votes of Western people, remembering that immigrants are far more likely to vote numerous times for their home nation than the average western viewer

They are right... First 5 places from Helsinki with just Western countries pts would stay the same, except Turkey would be in 3rd and Russia in 4 th place...

If only wester countries voted top 5 would be

1. Serbia
2. Ukraine and Turkey (same number of pts)
4. Russia
5. Bulgaria

yeah - great experiment about neighbour voting by completely ignoring the effect that diaspora voting has on the results from western votes. there is more than just one factor here!!
