Dima in France
First on three radio stations among the most listened to : NRJ, Fun and Europe 1. Next on his schedule (arranged by Bruno Berberes, French head of delegation) Dima Bilan was a guest in Canal Plus’ evening talk show, “Le grand journal”, presented by journalist Michel Denisot. To show his singing abilities, the man performed a few lines of Peggy Lee’s “Fever”, as well as an opera part.
Asked by journalists to have a traditional Russian song, Dima sang the famous “Kaline Kakaline, Kakaline Kamaya”. He was asked on his international projects and on the Russian goverment’s congratulations to him. Regarding the contest itself, he declared : “It’s a pity that France don’t care of the contest any longer”.
A 4th meeting was organized, as Dima Bilan was followed all day long by a team of Canal Plus, for a special report to be shown next Saturday, on “Plus Clair” at 12:45 CET.

Like I said, official numbers are wayyyyyyy smaller than actual numbers. Ask any Greek person you want (Greek person that lives in Greece I mean).
Sometimes I see more Albanians on a daily basis than Greeks..LOL
And that's just in Athens. In rural places there are many, many more..and half of them are here illegally.
no way about 1m Mina Carnation. Just looked at some reliable sites.
Btw, Is France clean now that Diva left? Well, nobody noticed he visited France so who cares! His song will never enter the official charts
Whatever ...:
Thank you for being nice about the Big 4!!! Generally people aren't so its refreshing to read a post that is friendly towards the Big 4!!!
Thanks
All Big 4 songs were nice this year.
France's
John Lennon-esque entry was really good .
Such a pity(!!!) that the show's director chopped up with bad shots on what could have been a most memorable LIVE! performance considering the splendid video of the song.
From the video I watched, he seemed neither drunk nor dragged to me. He seemed like a lively person who can sing very well. Maybe it's the difference in culture that made you think he's drunk...lol
he seemed drunk and drugged as always...
@Candyman
Official numbers may be smaller but I'm sure the correct number is around 1.000.000.
Let me just tell you that I'm a teacher and in my classes, the percentage is close to 1/5.
1.000.000 could be an understatement actually, now that I think about it.
Carnation:
There are not 1mil. Albanians in Greece. Check your statistics. Every song gets the pts that deserves.
Poor France for having Diva Belan in your soil!
@ Ben Johnson
You are absolutely right. Spain got 1 point France 2 - even better again!!
DannyT
UK gave France 2 points!
@ Mina
Thanks for the information.
I am going to see right now the video.
Dima the best
Dima is Gorgeus
See you in Moscow 2009!!!!!
Well, victor, I watched the youtube video of Dima on that French show, didn't understand a thing since I speak neither French nor Russian (lol), he sang a part of Fever and a part of a Russian song, like the article says, and also a bit of opera.
His laugh is contagious...lol. The French seemed to like him but who knows?
Pardon
Is not it this commentary on Dima in France?
Here nobody speaks about Dima hahaha
I actually loved the performance on stage - I thought it was offbeat and certainly memorable!
I remember the UK gave it one point and I was delighted cos I thought they hated each other!
Honestly I thought France would be very lucky to do well because it is a very niche song and not very mainstream but I don't want another reason for it not doing well being someone else having more say than my vote because they voted 50 times - I'm a student I can't afford to vote 50 odd times!!
The French song was great on record. For some reason best known to Tellier, it looked and sounded appalling in Belgrade. And the balloon blowing....oh dear.
The French song isn't bad to listen to, it was bad to look at..LOL
The average European (eastern or western) wouldn't vote for it.
Do you know that the most points it got came from eastern countries? 6 from Estonia and 8 from Lithuania. Also another 8 from Iceland.
The rest of the Europe pretty much ingored it.
@ Mina
I should also say that although I ain't sure about Ireland - in the UK the French song was the second most downloaded Eurovision song this year. Neither charted very highly though lol
Video from the show.

I hate the spanish television station
It has not wanted to bring to Dima on the Winner Tour to Spain.
And the spanish televoting gave to him 5 points (there are no many russians in Spain).
And the spanish people voted for Dima.
I HATE THE SPANISH TV STATION!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly Norway going last would been very beneficial but that is a different argument
I will say that Norway sent a song that a lot of Irish people would like and it did well here. Yeah it got 7 points - behind funnily enough Poland, the UK and Latvia and probably would only have 6 points of Lithuania made it to the final. I am not saying that it is impossible for a country to score well in Ireland other than those ones fore-mentioned there are tn places that award votes after all but they aren't going to get the top votes ahead of them either.
I had friends that voted for France who are really into French house music but that is hardly relevant as it isn't a representative sample of the country's population. However, what isn't representative either is the chance for immigrants to vote numerous times for their home country either.
When looking at the votes many were already taken up by Poland, Latvia, Romania and the UK, meaning the other 38 nations are competing for 6 places rather than ten. Everybody should have a vote, 1 vote. Do you just not accept this as an important factor in how a particular country scores the songs?
Look, everyone is judging according to their experience. Since, among the people I know (friends, family, colleagues) most voted for Armenia, Russia, Ukraine and Spain, how can I complain about the results?
We did give 10 points to Albania BUT we have 1,000,000 Albanias (in a country of just 11,000,000 people!) so yes, in that case it's obvious diaspora played a huge part.
I don't disagree that in the other european countries, immigrants played a big part (although in no way such a big part as in Greece!) in the voting, BUT, if the rest of the Irish people had voted too, it just doesn't seem logical that France, for example, would get 0 points from Ireland, UNLESS not enough people liked the song.
How did Ireland manage to give 7 points to Norway and 0 to France? Don't tell me you have Norwegian diaspora.
I don't know if you get my point.
Ain't it obvisous - France
From the final, I would have happily seen Norway, Iceland or Spain win too although I don't see winning as the only thing. Getting a top ten or qualifying the semi - final is probably the first thing these countries can even aim for. I thought the Netherlands and Ireland deserved to qualify the semi - final as well as Switzerland although I can understand his performance wasn't great on the night.
I just want to say as well that I would rate highly many of the songs from eastern europe for example Ukraine, Russia and Greece all sent excellent entries and they deserved to do well but at the same time they aren't the only countries sending good songs either.
I see you are from Ireland. So, how many Irish do you know that voted for France?
Ok Danny, now I see.
So, which one of those countries do you think deserved to win this year?
I mainly refer to traditional western nations such as the Big 4, Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, Malta, Belgium, the Netherlands, the microstates, and Scandinavia (although not to the same extent are they effected) etc who have had their chances cut under the voting system before their songs are selected although this problem could be stretched to some eastern nations too like the Baltics or the Czech Republic.
