Deadline in September

Bulgaria: Be a star to select 2009 Eurovision entry

Bulgarian broadcaster BNT have announced the rules for the country's preselection for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Once again, the Bulgarians will be producing a special show for the occasion but in a different format to last year's EuroBGvision.

Be a star, this year's Bulgarian preselection, will take place in two phases. Eighteen songs in total will compete in the semi final. Nine of them will be selected by the Bulgarian public via televote and nine more by a special jury. A jury, different to the original one, will then select nine songs to go to the final between 1st October - 19th December. Those will be joined by three more songs commissioned by the broadcaster. The final decision, on the night of the final, will be taken entirely through televote and sms voting.

All songs submitted for Be a star must be Bulgarian products but the choice of language is up to the creators. The deadline for the submission of the songs is 19th September.

Rules can be found here (in Bulgarian).

- BURR/Bulgaria4Ever ...
I was shocked to hear this. I feel sorry for Albena.

BURR:

Is that true? They are such a great couple.

Mina:

Yes, why can't they?! James Blunt would be a very good choice.
And there is a very talented ice dance couple from Scotland, John and Sinead Kerr, who are brother and sister. They would do The UK proud :)

Here you can watch the Bulgarian World Champions skating to James Blunt's "You're beautiful" (I know you like him Mina). The French commentators are only talking at the beginning.

Mina, i have just read an article on oikotimes about Kalomoira..It really looks like she is been given up her singing career..How was the press with her after ESC? i think god..but can it be that there were some wicked, mean and offensive commentaries, like the ones that Helena Paparizou got back then? if yes, maybe she is fed up with the whole show bizz in Greece.i think really, this girl is talented t become a pop star, but somehow too sweet and knid for shw bizz..well, my opinion goes like this

and, Mina, personally i will be very sad, if she chooses for no pop star career..i thought, only by watching her in the ESC, that she was the only participant really able to make an international career, after ABBA and Celine Dion.bu it is her life, and she should decide what she wants..not her fans, not her mother, not her George(bliach)

Mina, i got your point..well maybe she doesn't dream of a big career and she dreams intead of a life next to her "George"(who looks pretty boring and not attractive to me)..maybe as you say...she doesn't know..i think she gets a lot of pressure from her family.maybe she had enough, you know, maybe she realised being a star is not her thing..actually i guess this must be it..she looks too "normal" and very down to earth and sweet to be part of a big career

Nikolas Psomas [esctoday.com editor]
Thu 10 Jul 2008 14:33:23

why? i think she is taking a break..or i am afraid her mother is trying to convince her to quit her career and get married to her Giorgios..going through some clips of the tube, i saw a bit of an interview with the mother after the ESC semis, when she(her mother) looked worried instead of happy and said: " iwant her to take care..to take big care...)..about her boyfriend: what a "boulis-mamakias!!" -->(sorry guys i can not translate this, i can express it better in greek)..so Mina i think either she is taking a break or a wash brain

Mina, i am sure you are not silly, i can tell by your comments(despite the fact that i maybe silly..) ok let us agree again that we disagree on the topic of the height of Dima Bilan..and let me be sure that no way he is taller than 1,75 cm(actually i think he can be slightly shorter than this)..never mind, he still looks very good on and out of stage..i think we can agree on this..
About this festival..i have actually read that such an eastern song contest does exist, and actually that Martakis has already taken once part in it, even before the Greek National Final, and he came second..i have listenes him saying that in an interview in you tube(interview before the NF)..i do not know if he is gonna take part again this year..we have to look for this..
and about Kalomoira: i think it is her good right t take a rest and make some holidays..she worked hard for the ESC, she brought out a very good outcome..i am sure she will be back son sutanned, pretty and ready to shake the stage :-)

Mina,
i am neither a fan of Martakis nor of Sakis..i admire Sakis, because it is true he shines a lot on stage ans he has an uncomparable energy and charisma on stage..but, his voice is weak when singing..Now Martakis is 10 years younger than Sakis, that means he can appeal more to the very young female(and not :-) vters of the ESC and he can sing better than Sakis..i admit he does not have the energy of Sakis on stage..i think in this fictional scenario of Martakis for Cyprus and Sakis for Greece, it will all depend on the song, the appearance order, and on the night..but i think it will not be good for Greece and Cyprus if they appear in the same ESC..i think also of another scenario..Martakis-Sakis(and maybe others in the greek NF)..well then Martakis is gonna need a bombastic song to win this greek NF

Mina, you know that i like your comments very much, even when we do not agree..i do not think being given right is the porpose of any discussion in the world..and surely we are here to say anything we want at all..but i do not like it when people exaggerate on something, just because they like it..i think, you like Dima so much(like is not the right world there:-), that you tend to see some things less realistically..and i am telling you..there is no way he is taller than 1.72-1.75 cm..i mean you can tell even on stage, on photos, on the body structure the length of someone(very approximately).and i am telling you even if kalomoira was wearing the highest heels(i told myself she did and does), she is pretty small and Dima can not be taller than 1,75 cm..for me a fact..but you can go on dreaming no problem 4 me..:-)

Mina:
Noway that Dima is 1.82 cm high, well without high heels of course :-)..you can see 4 yourself, just watch this great clip of Dima and Kalomoira dancing together..or when later they sing 2gether on stage: they are exactly on the same level..well i guess Kalomoira had high heels on, but still i think she must be pretty short, i guess something around 1.62 cm? even if she wered 10-12 cm heels, this makes Bilan no taller than 1,75 cm and i am sure about this..if he says he is 1, 82 he is simply lying..Martakis-Sakis, Grece-Cyprus, senario for ESC 2009..i stll thin they will both end up somewhere in the middle, by simple robbing points the one from the other..or they will be comp-eting on the night for the 1st and 2nd position

and about his english..i know, i also have still a greek accent( but i 've never wanted to get rid of), but i am not a singer.the problem is that russian accent is very heavy and it doesn't sound sexy at all with english..it is not the same when spanish or even greek singers have an accent..on them, that is what english friends of mine told me) it sounds cute, even sexy..i d not think it is the same with the russian accent..and on this clip you ve posted Dima sings Italian( i had much difficulties to figure this out, although italian is very, very familiar to me) and there he has a more stronger russian accent..
to sum it up: whith his english i do not think he will ever make an international career, unless he works hard on this..
and please, you do not have to defend him so wildly on everything, do yu? :-)

Mina and Lina, (gee it rhymes :-)
what do you think will happen if Cyprus send Martakis next year to the ESC and Greece Sakis? I think they will rob votes the one from the other, especially if they are going to sing a song in similar style..i think the only way to avoid this will be if the one sings a ballad and the other an uptempo..
Mina, about the video of Dima Bilan: the guy can sing very very well, i like his voice very much. 2 things: i can not understand why is it so difficult for him to get rid of his very heavy russian accent? singers have a good ear and an imitation quality when they have to sing in other languages..and as he is styled on this clip he reminded me of anthimos ananiadis(a ppular, young greek actor).by the way i think that Anthimos is one of the most handsome greek guys(a bit short though, but Dima must be also short)

lina,
i think if Martakis is gonna represent Cyprus with a very good song, Cyprus will have for the 1st time high chances of winning the contest..I did not find Evdokia Kadi and "Femme Fatale" bad. Actually i thought it was one of the best songs of ESC 2008: different, with elements of traditionalmusic, with a theme on the stage and a very good voice of Evdokia..the thing is that the tune was nt catchy enough to get people to vote for this, there were no semi naked dancers or singers on stage and Evdokia was pretty descrete as a presence in the ESC..in addition Cyprus has no secure votes except from Greece..so it was difficult..but i enjoied her performance a lot and i hear to this song even after the contest.it has also ome theatrical in it..The only possibility for Martakis not t bring Cyprus to the final or get to the top3 will be if Sakis gonna sing for Greece again(there rumours going on about it

@Burr,
i think Bulgaria came this year and a year before with two entries that were miles better than the clip you have posted..and in a nicer language than russian, well for my ears at least..and i think had Dima sung his ballad in russian, he would have got less points, at least fron non eastren coountires..and this would mean no victory

no, noo, noo not because of this..i liked everything on that entry, the colours on stage, the music..what i did not like much were the over the top, wild moving up and down of the djs on stage..but i fund the girl also very very very cute...that is true

Mina, the girl with DJ Deep Zone and Baltazar was cool and she had a supportive role to the dj, club sound of the song..i think she was pretty cool on stage, and i liked her outfit very much

@marc:
i think Martakis is a bit timid for the standards of a big star..gays i know do not find him attractive at all, i think his target group are teeny girls dreamning of the kissing prince..I find him pretty good for a contest like the ESC: he can sing, he looks good, he is young and actually a nice guy..maybe you have the wrong impression of him..but i do not know him personally, and actually i doo not care.i hope and i will like him, if he performa a god show for cyprus, Greece or any other country in the ESC 2009

Mina, i think thia other bulgarian enrty of NF 2008 would have reached the last, 0 point place of my beloved Remedios Amaya..teir voices are bad, their italian bad, and i think the handsome guy in white wouldnot have been enough to bring some votes..if the fantastic "Dj, take me away did not made it, this had no chance, well in my eyes and ears

Only reason why they sent that Natalia girl (who could not speak a word English, not even mention sing it) because she won the Russian Idol. So she was very popular at that moment. I don't really know Martakis, saw him a few times om talkshows when I was in Athens, he comes accross not shy but very biased, as if he is a bit better than the rest of us. And my husband tells ne the same, he comes from very very rich background, was model for a bit and than got into singing after doing a reality thing. He sounds very boring to me.... And I really o think he is not goodlooking at all, he is not natural,... although my gay friends all think he is...

Mina,
i really did not know that he was already in the NF..abut this song: it is not bad, but it sounds like no winning song at al..it has nothing impressive on it.i gues this was a very bad NF for Russia..i do not like the russian entry of 2005 neither this song that much..the good thing about Dima is that he can sing, but really i think he should work on his english accent, it sounds so strange, that it spoils his good songs. i do not like his hair there and his styling. But he looks god and convincing on stage like always..

well i think Cyprus will do very very well if he agrees to sing 4 them and they produce for him a decent song..and i can assure you you are not the only greek girl who does not like Martakis and his angelic face. A good girlfriend of mine(also Greek living in Berlin) can not stand his appearances and him out of the same reasons yoou do not like him either..and sometimes she becomes even a bit mad or disgusted when i say something positive about him..well me, i like mostly women, so his "angelic" face appears more familiar and appealing to me..:-)) just kidding(partly :-)

Mina,
i would rather describe Martakis as shy, but not boring..i have noticed, he is very timid in interviews, but this is also kind of cute..i have never watched the casting show he was in(did he win back then?) but i saw some bits in you tube(this you tube is a treasure indeed!!)..the thing that i ve noticed is that this guy CAN sing, a thing that is rare with handsome popstars. I have read somewhere the CyBC(Cyprus) have made him the proposal to sing for Cyprus next year with internal selection of the song and he thins about it...i think this is a good idea

@Mina:
i loved the outfit of Bulgaria..i found the movements of the djs on stage well, a bit over the top..i still hear the song, almost everyday in the gym and in remix. I think up to now i liked all the bulgarian entries, but the very best was "Voda", ESC 2006..in the semis she did not sung thaqt well, but on the finals she got her number perfect, exactly like the studio version..it would have been a good winning song, although Molitva was also very ok

Water or DJ take me away ?

That's not too difficult, Water by a landslide.... that was probably one of the best songs ever at Eurovision. Would have been better with just the girl, I think. Also when I first heard the song, it really did blow me away, but with the percussions being live on the stage, it was very very difficult to transport this masterpiece on a live stage... But still was in my personal top 3
