ČT still interested in Eurovision
Czech Republic will be there in 2009
However, ČT has confirmed that they are still interested in the Eurovision Song Contest, and will be taking part in 2009 as well, unless their budget is overstretched, which is unlikely as they will not have to budget for Olympic or Euro coverage in 2009.
As yet, no famous Czech singers have announced their interest to represent the Czech Republic in Moscow, but criticism of Tereza Kerndlová's live performance in Belgrade in 2008 has brought media attention to the contest in one of Eurovision's newest member states.
The Czech Republic debuted in 2007 with one of their most successful bands of all time, Kabát, who nevertheless could only manage 1 point and last position in the semi final. Tereza Kerndlová, another commerically successful artist in the country, could not fare much better in Belgrade, scoring 9 points and second-to-last in the second semi final.

Ofcourse not, I didn't like any of the Ukrainian songs
I didn't like Ukraine 2004 and Russia 2008 as well. Serbia 2008 was a very good song but i hated Marija's behaviour.
Serbia votes for songs ! We gave 12 to Elena Paparizou and not any ex Yu entry !
But my dear, all countries vote for countries which do NOT belong to the same block voting. Wanna examples?
There is a small (but very well motivated) Armenian diaspora in the Czech Republic which is the only explanation why they keep giving top marks to Armenia
what about azerbaijan?
God love the Czech like they ain't picked great songs like - although this year they got featured in the Sun cos Tereza and her backing dancers were so good looking!
I don't agree though that they deserved last place in the 2nd semi final though especially when that should have been reserved for the awful entry from FYR Macedonia. What was is it even called?
When we speak about Ex Yu block, its not that Im from Serbia, but Serbia is the most fair in voting in our block, becouse in all ex Yu countries, ESC is the most popular and loved here in Serbia and our ppl vote for songs they like, and not like in Bosnia - Serbs for Serbia, Croats for Croatia and Bosniaks for Turkey. Montenegrin votes also come from diasporas - Albanian, Bosniak, Serbian, Macedonia giving 13 to Albania, ....
Serbia votes for songs ! We gave 12 to Elena Paparizou and not any ex Yu entry ! We gave 12 to Macedonia in 2004 coz Tose was a big superstar here and not becouse he represented our neighbour ! 10 went to Ruslana that year. We gave 7 to Lordi ! This year we gave 12 to Bosnia - Ok its inside our block, but we gave 10 to Russia, 8 to Greece, 7 to Israel, 6 to Ukraine, 5 to Armenia, 4 to Norway - all of them being far from Serbia and out of ex Yu block !!!
If Kosovo enters - which would happen in 3, 4 years I guess (and hope passions will come down so RTS doesn't withdrow then) it will surely have 12 from Albania and maybe 10 from Macedonia, 0 from Serbia, but if Kosovo enters it surely make Albanian and Kosovarian chances of victory very difficult coz it's the same people actualy and their diaspora will vote for both songs
@ Candyman
There is a small (but very well motivated) Armenian diaspora in the Czech Republic which is the only explanation why they keep giving top marks to Armenia. In a country like the Czech Rep. with few other minorities to compete against the Armenians it's easy for a minority of only a few thousands to grab high points. Not that Stockselius and friends are interested....
Jonny,
No, not really. These are the only jazz albums I've got, and the Garbarek one is more 15th century than jazz
I dont know why everybody is mentioning Kosovo when it doesnt even have the right to participate...doesnt one need to be inependant?
And i am sure its going to be a marvelous ESC that year, with Scotland, Wales, Valencia, Basque....
Jonny:
Keith is an excellent pianist. Perhaps I'm more of a Garbarek fan, the saxophone player. They have been working together a lot. I also have an album with Jan Garbarek and The Hilliard Ensemble (15th century/jazz)
"Benga beating" I meant, sorry.
I hope they will send Samer Issa or Gipsy.cz. There were many interesting songs in their 2008 national final : "Pick a star", "Benga neating" or "Another chance".
Hold on, Czech republic, I hope next year is your year.
Exactly, you can't say it was good so that's why it was voted by Russia.
And so what if Koldun was famous there? O was Rakintzis in Cyprus and he got 12 or The Ark in Denmark and they gave Sweden 12 even if he flopped.
Ofcourse they knew Rakintzis in Cyprus. I don't know about the Ark.
Jonny:
I'm glad you've changed your mind about "A century of love"
The more I listen to the Austrian entry, the more I like it but I think "My song" is even better. (I have that album with Keith Jarrett.)
The pianist Peter Wolf who composed the Austrian entry has been living in America since the 70s and he has appeared in jazz festivals. I think he was influenced by Jarrett when he wrote "Heute in Jerusalem".
And being a favourite to win doesn't mean that the song is great!
Ofcourse not, I didn't like any of the Ukrainian songs
no no candyman u r wrong my dear, i have some macedonian albanian friends and they assure that the 12 wil go to macedonia and the 10 to albania, the big albanian community in macedonian are culturally more similar to kosovar albanians than the albanians in albania, so there will be the back scratch...
lol once kosovo is in i can already see macedonia's voting pattern- 12- kosovo and 10 and 8 to albania or serbia lol..
candy my dear i think the obvious idea is kosovo albania, but the balkans is not as black and white as one may think..
oh by the way nemke is right, whilst serbia give high points to their neighbours, they also vote outside the block to
but if kosovo comes in im very sure macedonia and kosovo will have a greece/cyprus relationship...
slovakia would surely give high points to the czechs and hungary should score well too!
You're wrong. It's Kosovo-Albania!!
Russia and Ukraine had good positions these last 2 years but both years their songs were favourites!
Maybe, Europeans were bored of Serbian ballads?? And being 6th is not a failure, Serbia-Montenegro were 6th as well in 2005 but they didn't deserve it IMO. Don't forget the 12p they got from Austria,Switzerland and the high pts from the rest of central Europe ,countries.
And being a favourite to win doesn't mean that the song is great! There are many factors to bet for a song to win, like which country represents (aka block voting) etc.
Yes I think they must have used televoting Because apparently only Monaco, Albania, Andorra and Moldova used Juries in the 2005 final.
Monaco and Moldova used juries in 2005 final. Albania used televoting but i'm not sure for Andorra. Does any1 knows for sure?
well the Armenians will be glad... another 10 or 12 from Prague; just like in 2007 and 2008
lol yeah but why Armenia gets so high pts from CZ? And it was a surprise Azerbaijan got 12 from Hungary and 10(?) from CZ!!
Maybe they like opera lol
His song being good or bad is irrelevant..many ppl liked it, even here in Greece (I know a few Koldun fans..lol)...I was just saying that it was not neighbour voting, they knew and liked Kaldun already.
Russia is actually among the countries who don't always vote for the same country...I mean their 12 pts...but I don't know how many of those results were from jury and how many from televoting.
2000 - Denmark
2001 - France
2002 - Romania
2003 - Romania
2004 - Ukraine
2005 - Malta
2006 - Armenia
2007 - Belarus
2008 - Armenia
Exactly, you can't say it was good so that's why it was voted by Russia.
And so what if Koldun was famous there? O was Rakintzis in Cyprus and he got 12 or The Ark in Denmark and they gave Sweden 12 even if he flopped.
And i have told you that Russia hasn't 1 friend country but...plenty of friends (to be specific, ex-soviet friends! lol)
Armenia,Azerbaijan,Ukraine,Bel arus,Latvia,Lithuania,Estonia, Moldova and maybe Israel..
And Russia has been using the full televoting system since 2004.
...Sweden gave 6 pts to Serbia and 10 pts to Bosnia, Finland gave 10 pts to Russia, Denmark gave 6 pts to Latvia and 7 to Ukraine, Iceland gave 6pts to Portugal and 8 pts to France
Oh c'mon, immigrants??? Sweden even voted for Bosnia&Herzegovina in 2002! lol
And Latvia is a northern country, Scandinavian countries always vote for Baltic states and vice versa.
The surprise was France getting votes from Scandinavia and Baltics. Well done to them for voting Sebastien! He really deserved them!
@neo nikolais ... I agree with you . Our country must withdraw from the contest , yes its waste of time and money !!! As eurovision year by year getting worst and worst I don't think that we have any chance to get in finals .
I think that the better way is that all Mediderannean and western European countries withdraw from the contest and make a song contest only for these countries .. Let's leave ex yugoslavian and ex soviet countries to have their own contest and vote each other as they like... !!!!!!
now the eurovision will be a victory for ex-yoguslav or ex-soviet countries
I totally disagree. Last year Serbia won but this year they were 6th. Russia and Ukraine had good positions these last 2 years but both years their songs were favourites!
russia votes for her block only
so does sweden,finland,denmark,iceland
and so does serbia, hungary, bosnia and herzegovia, fyrom and bla bla
That's not true.
Russia gave 5 pts to Norway and 6 pts to Israel...Sweden gave 6 pts to Serbia and 10 pts to Bosnia, Finland gave 10 pts to Russia, Denmark gave 6 pts to Latvia and 7 to Ukraine, Iceland gave 6pts to Portugal and 8 pts to France and the same with ex yugoslavians..they all voted other countries, too..maybe the highest points go to neighbours but every point counts in Eurovision.
Good news, it's nice that the Czech Republic will go on partying with the rest of Europe next year. Kabat was quite good last year I liked their song. As for Tereza, the studio version was ok... I wish them to find the right song and artist to qualify in Moscow
and let me tell you that cyprus is one of the countries that ALWAYS vote fairly...gives points to iceland, sweden[far away from us],to portugal[no relation with cyprus],moldova, serbia, hungary[nothing special]...cyprus votes always all the blocks....
russia votes for her block only
so does sweden,finland,denmark,iceland
and so does serbia, hungary, bosnia and herzegovia, fyrom and bla bla
if dima bilan could participate this year cyprus, will he won??NO WAY !!ITS THE COUNTRY THAT COUNTS!!
OUT FROM EUROVISION georgia, armenia, israel,TURKEY, azerbaijan, out, out ,out
cpbija89
ry from now and on dont look only cyprus-greece exchange 12 points..many countries exchange 12points...now the eurovision will be a victory for ex-yoguslav or ex-soviet countries...cyprus,my country please withdraw...please...is just waste of time
