Turkey: Ajda Pekkan released new album

Ajda Pekkan, who represented Turkey in 1980 with Petrol , has released the 18th album of her long and successful career on 23th July. Aynen yle was produced by the Turkish diva herself.

Ajda is rightfully called a superstar in Turkey for being the number 1 pop idol of the country from the 60's until now. TRT chose her to represent Turkey in 1980 Eurovision and a lot was expected from her. Disappointment followed though when she placed 15 th in The Hague. For a few years after contest she did not return to Turkey, took a long break and tried to forget what was considered a Eurovision disaster. But since then, her career has soared both on stage and on the screen spanning 4 decades.

On 23rd July, Ajda released her new album which she produced herself. The album is called Aynen Öyle. Volga Tamöz, Mustafa Ceceli and Emre Irmak arranged songs and Şehrazat and Sezen Aksu also worked for Ajda in album. The star also gave a concert in Kuruçeşme Arena'da with an impressive 110 persons team.

You will probably not read this before you go on holiday but I found a clip from the Schlager Pride. (The 3rd guy with the white cap talking in the beginning of the video is one of the "talented" Brits.)

the singer from Poland in the last ESC looked even more solarium -bathed than Anet and with a less stronger song and with a less good voice she made it

True..maybe Isis Gee is better known than Annet?

Mina,
i do not think that she looked that bad after all. the singer from Poland in the last ESC looked even more solarium -bathed than Anet and with a less stronger song and with a less good voice she made it..i do not know..there must be something more than the yellow dress ans the solarium..any other guess??
Iwatched again the performance of Lisa 9n 2004 in the semis..On this night her vocals were a bit out of tune and weak, she seemed to be very very nervous..i remember having noticed this even back then. But on the final she was great, everything was fine and she had the best possible draw..i think Cyprus 2004 was the moral winner of the ESC

anther big mystery for me: could anyone explain to me how this song, this strong and flawless performance did not pass the semis? I am talking about Cyprus 2006

It was a matter of vision, Vincent. Annet looked dreadful that night..that yellow dress, the solarium...people couldn't get over the look. As soon as I saw her I turned to my friends and said 'she's not going to make it to the final'.

I'm glad you said that. You know that "The worrying kind" is my favourite Swedish entry :)

Jonny,
Yes, and it's very difficult for English speaking people to learn Swedish in Sweden because people here want to speak English.

oh yes!! Mina, Stockholm and Johny thanx for reminding me that i have 4 and not only 3 favourite swedish entries: the 4th is "the worrying kind", but i prefer it also without picture :-)
For me ESC 2004 was a very good one all together..as for the winner i would be happier to have seen Cyprus, Turkey or Serbia winning. I loved all of these three songs, but i agree with /marc, Cyprus should have made it, the song was soooo beautiful and the performance strong and plain..

Jonny,
I can't say that English comes naturally but compared to the other languages I took (German, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Latin) English is easier. And we can listen to English every day on TV, on the radio (music), etc.

Jonny,
When I learnt English at school I found the spelling of some words a bit strange. There seemed to be letters which were not pronounced at all, "beauty" for instance. (This was before I learnt French.) The only Swedish words with an accent are "French" words.

Jonny,
LOL :) Yes, those Brits were really talented. They didn't seem to speak a word of Swedish. The pronunciation of the å, ä and ö letters especially must be difficult.

To me Turkey was the winner in 2004.

Lena Philipsson is a great performer and she's very popular. When the show was over last night the audi ence shouted "Lena" until she reappeared. She had already sung 3 of her MF entries. She competed in MF in 1986, 1987 and 1988 as well. In 1988 she was the runner-up and I think she should have represented Sweden with "Om igen".

Jonny,
the guys standing next to me flying their flags were British. They could sing every song last night, even Sanna's "Vågar du vågar jag" :)

I think Cyprus should sent that girl once more..."Stronger every minute" was breathtaking and without televotes but with juries, she would have been the winner. So maybe next year with 50/50 at last good songs will win again. Mina, about Sakis I won't say anything anymore.

My ideal winner of 2004 would have been Cyprus Although I would have been happy with Germany or Turkey aswell

My ideal winner would have been Serbia or Greece (I loved Lane Moje and I love Sakis :P) but I would also be happy with Cyprus, Turkey or Sweden.

Cyprus is gonna win ESC next year [49443]

I agree with Mina, Lena must be one of the most natural performers ever on the show. Her voice is so strong, she is so sexy, beautiful.... I loved the belgian commentary before she started, and now for Sweden we have the wife of a football player. What he wanted to say is that she really looked so sexy and beautiful. And thinking about it, she actually looks like a glamourous wife of a footbaal player....

I'm surprised you liked "It hurts" so much

It was a catchy tune and I liked the way Lena performed it. I also liked the lyrics, I still remember them 'it hurts in the middle of the night, in the light of the day'....and I think what I liked most was the difference between the lyrics and the music..you would expect a sad tune with those lyrics.
If there weren't so many good songs in 2004 (except Ukraine I loved all the top 5 that year) she would have ended up higher, I'm sure.

Speaking of Swedish entries I liked Waterloo, Se pag mej, Den Vilda, Take me to your heaven, When spirits are calling my name, Never let it go, It hurts (one of my most favourite Swedish entries ever), and the Worrying kind was a good song (didn't like the way he looked but I liked the song :P).

marc,
I love Nicole and Hugo. They were great. Tommy participated in MF last year. I think you'll still be able to watch that performance on SVT's website.

Wish I could have been there.... I remember in the eighties, finding Tommy soooooooooooooo sexy.... How does he look mowadays ? Nicole and Hugo,..... my God. Were they any good ? Damm why am I not Swedish ?

Jonny/Vincent,

Yes, the show was amazing :) Nicole & Hugo wore their purple outfits last night too! And I was really surprised to see Amina there. Lill is still very cool and funny.
Charlotte looked great and she was so happy when people asked her to sing "Hero" a second time. You made my day, she said. At the end of the show they all sang Waterloo together, Euroband starting :)
Last year there was an article about the Schlager night and video clips on esctoday.

Marc, you mentioned "En dag". Tommy Nilsson also appeared last night.

Vincent,

And what about the following Swedish entries ?
Fangad i en drom, Stad i ljus, En dag, Som en vind, I morgon ar en annan dag, Stjarnorna, Se pag mej, Den vilda, Karleken ar, it hurts.... I absolutely adored all of those with personal top 3
1. Se pag mej
2. Den vilda
3. I morgon ar an annan dag

Absolutely ador a lot of the Swedish entries, but can't stand any of Carola's and Charlotte's entries.
