OGAE Bulgaria: Call for members and logo design

Following the ever rising interest in Bulgaria for the Eurovision Song Contest, local fans have started the OGAE club and are now looking to expand by launching a call for members among Eurovision fans in the country.

Mazarra Mazerati, the club’s initiator and president, spoke to esctoday.com about the first steps of the new born club: “We are looking for people who are creative and hard working and would have some good ideas to promote Bulgaria in the Eurovision Song Contest, promote the contest itself inside Bulgaria and make OGAE successful.

OGAE Bulgaria is also in the process of selecting the club’s new logo and Mazarra says they would be happy to receive designs from fellow fans around Europe: “We are looking for something simple, in the colours of the Bulgarian flag. As our club is so new, we cannot offer any sort of payment, I am afraid, but it would be great if our friends around Europe could assist us in this!” she states.

Bulgaria entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 achieving their best result to date in 2007 when Elitsa Todorova and Stoyan Yankulov placed 5. In 2008, BNT, the local broadcaster, organised a lengthy national selection in an effort to raise the profile of the contest in the country. Bulgaria has been one of the first countries to announce how the will choose their 2009 participant, and that is through the Be a star show. (more information here ).

If you want to join OGAE Bulgaria or/and help out with the logo design, or if you need more information or to join your local club, send us an mail here

Dj Take Me Away was great! I just noticed that the Bulgarian girl was out of tune and maybe her dress ruin the whole spectacular perfomance.

oh my dear. Poland came last and Azerbaijan and Bosnia&Herzegovina thanks to diaspora did extremely well.

Just look at the points of the 11th country.

In general, as most people also claim and not only me, the 2nd semifinal was better.

"Voda" was the best entry of ESC 2007 and for me it deserved even a higher place, a tp3 if not the winning one. I voted for it a lot both in the semis and the finals. I went also wild with "Dj, take me away", i found the performance very riginal and fresh and the beat is for me a very good club tune, but i must confess i did not vote for them, because i was sure they would easily qualify. And maybe that is the mistake many other fans of this song did..a fatal error, i think, i have regreted this right after the announcement of the finalists. Maybe many others thought so, so that is why this strong entry did not manage to qualify

Mina,
in the first semi i liked very much Greece and Armenia, i just liked Israel Azerbaijan and Holland, i found Russia and Norway ok, and i found all the rest annoying or boting to death.
in the second semi i loved and enjoied the Bulgarian entry(you see, Mazzara, we aere still in the topic :-), i liked very much Albania, i just liked Cyprus, Georgia, Portugal, Switzerland and Croatia and the rest was for me just uninteresting..So you see, for me it was definetely the 2nd semi my case :-)

Mina/Vincent:

Most of my favourites were in the 1st semi:
Azerbaijan, Moldova, Bosnia, San Marino, Norway, Finland, The Netherlands.
In the 2nd semi I liked:
Turkey, Iceland, Sweden, Bulgaria, Denmark.

Although this is getting off-topic, I'd like to add my opinion .. :)

I think the best semi was semi 1 (Although the coolest song, Bulgaria, was in semi 2 ! ;) ) . 6 of my top ten were in semi 1, including my 12 points (Israel!!!), and only 4 of my top ten were in semi 2 although that includes my 10 & 8. :) :D

Vincent,

I had that problem with the 2nd semi...if I take it song by song, from the 1st semi I liked Greece (that goes without saying ofcourse :P), Russia, Armenia, Norway, Israel, San Marino, Moldova, and Romania...and I could live with Belgium, Andorra (I had a good laugh at that presentation :P), Netherlands, Poland, Finland and Montenegro..I only really hated Bosnia, Azerbaijan, Ireland, and Slovenia.

From the 2nd semi I liked Turkey, Albania, Cyprus and Portugal. And I could live with Switzerland, Denmark, Belarus, Georgia, and Hungary. I hated (count) Iceland, Sweden, Ukraine, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Latvia, Bulgaria, Malta and Fyrom.

So, as you see, I found the 2nd semi muchhhhhhhhh longer...lol

the first semi was one of the worst ESC i have ever watched. The one entry was worser than the other, but there were some exeptions, and these exeptions happened to be the best song of the contest, but on the whole i found the first semi, especially the entries which didn't make it boring and it seemed to me like a century and not a 2 hours programme

Candyman,
the songs weren't good according to you. According to the rest of Europe they must have been much better than the 2nd semi..that's what the results show. And what do you mean there wasn't big competition when it's proven that almost half of those songs were among the most popular ones?? If there wasn't competition with Russia, Armenia, Greece, Norway, Israel, who was the competition with in the 2nd semi? All the favourites in the 1st semi made it. In the 2nd semi only Sweden (jury vote) and Ukraine were favourites...and only Ukraine held on that title..the rest were a bunch of songs that did so and so.

How was the 1st semifnal weak???

It was~ the songs weren't good except few and there wasn't big competition so bg would have easily qualified

Mina Carnation [51405]
Sat 2 Aug 2008 15:27:45

If they were in the 1st -weak- semifinal, they would have qualified for sure.

How was the 1st semifnal weak??? Out of the 10 songs of that semi 7 songs made it to the Top 10 of the final, 4 of which in the top 5!
Out of the 2nd semi's 10 songs only 2 got in the top 10..Ukraine and Turkey.

I wasn't shocked to see Latvia or Georgia qualifying, in fact I was very happy with Latvia qualifying! However I was very shocked by the qualification or Croatia, and slightly shocked by Albania, even though I really like the Albanian song

I was shocked to see LAT and GEO qualifying because they didn't deserve it. Esp. horrible and ridiculous Latvia. Bulgaria was superior to the latvian entry!

I expected Croatia to qualify and i was glad to do so. Same for my favourite, Albania :-) After 2 years, they returned to the final :-)

bulgaria didnt qualified, because of the political vote

No, i don't think so. They were 11th, so close to qualify. If they were in the 1st -weak- semifinal, they would have qualified for sure. Bulgaria keep sending such great entries!!!

Mazarra Mazerati [44529]
Sat 2 Aug 2008 11:32:10

@ Mina, ah it's okey! I know, I was joking. I agree it wasn't political. I think actually bulgaria proves that sometimes being eastern -european isnt enough like some people think, and moldova. the songs were good enough to qualify but didn't. I think denmark didn't deserve to qualify, but it did, and it's scandanvian! So I agree, you can't blame politics for everything.

Mina Carnation [51405]
Sat 2 Aug 2008 11:14:53

Mazarra,
I'm sorry, it wasn't one of the worst songs for sure and it could have qualified but it didn't..I was just answering on the basis that we can't blame political voting for everything. It was a modern song that could or couldn't get through to the viewers and in the end it didn't..that's all.
For my taste Moldova should have qualified too but same as Bulgaria it didn't get through to the average European..it wasn't about politics, that's all I said ;)

Woo hoo Go Mazarina! :) Hope all goes well for OGAE Bulgaria! :D yayaay

Sat 2 Aug 2008 11:02:50

Mina! Are you trying to make me cry? :( :P

I can see how it is not for some peoples taste, but I thought it was modern and unique and entertaining, it should have qualified. I loved Joanna's dress, I thought she looked beautiful in the performance! I think Bulgaria need to choose something a little less 'out there' than they've done in recent years.

Mina Carnation [51405]

bulgaria didnt qualified, because of the political vote

Bulgaria didn't qualify because the girl's outfit was horrible and it wasn't even a song, it was music with a few words in between.
This excuse of 'political voting' for any song someone liked and didn't qualify is getting old.
How did they qualify (and finish 5th!) last year? People didn't vote 'politically' then and decided to do it this year, especially with 2 semi finals????
Or has Albania that qualified so many 'political' friends?

they dont have even one free day. all they days are full with concerts, in all the world
they even dont have many concerts here. they are always outside of bulgaria.

many bulgarians wants them on esc again, but they wont do it. and i dont know about about some similar like them. we have gropus, but withought the drums

Mazzara,
please do not forget to look for the gorgeous, good loking man holding a big white carnation(i am talking about me :-))

I have stated this many times, and i will do it once again: foe me "DJ, take me away" was the most modern good club tune n the ESC stage ever. I was sure it would qualify. It is among the very few songs i listen t, at home, at gym or by shopping. I have downloaded a package of remixes(^) and the one is better than the other. I still do not know what went wrong. All the luck for the next year to Bulgaria!!

Good luck, Mazarra!

I think "DJ, Take me away" is the best Bulgarian entry and it should definitely have qualified.

Bahaha!

I was just thinking "oh neat! I should tell Mazzara about this!" Alas, I am several steps behind on this one!

Congratulations Maz!
