To celebrate the 25th anniversay of her Eurovision Song Contest victory in Munich, Germany, Corinne Herms is about to publish a very special CD. Compiled by a collector, all versions of her song to date including French, English, German, plus the instrumental, a re-recording of Si la vie est cadeau, in an acoustic mood.

It's a pitty Corinne hermes does not publish also the other songs she offered on the Luxembourg national final of 1983.

1983 was a perfect year. The orchestra did a marvellous job, only the stage was maybe inovative in the terms of that time, but non the less, boring in my opinion. I still miss those plastic pieces moving during the songs. Those in 1980 and 1984 stage still has on me a better effect than all the modern stages theu use now days.

Stockholm,
i think cinema bizzare would have been a far better choice for the Germany than the No Angels, and i lie them a lot and i think they would have scored higher than the NoAngels. With the german NF i have also the feeling that very often not the best choice is made. I think that the viewers here vote according to their favourite group or to what they personally like, and not according to which act would probably be liked by the rest of Europe. After the contest though and after the results they go on wondering what went wrong. Anyway, i still think Germany is and was a country which people would not easily vote for, no matter how good their entries are.
The greek 1983 entry was indeed a very good song, melodic and nicely sung and with very nice lyrics(which only greeks could understand :-(, although the juries got all the texts tranlated in english and into their own language), but i t was far away from any winning formula of the time, a bit in the style of "ein bisschen frieden", but Greece was not Germany and Greece had never been the most beloved pupil of the juries

WS,
yes i have watched the whole contest more than once. I know Marlene made some mistakes with the names and her french was aslo not the best, but on the whole i think she was more beautiful than many of the previous female hosts of the contest, more fresh in her ways. I also liked the stage a lot, it was very different, original and the backrounf looked a bit like screen walls, a stage feature which we got some 15 years later in the contest.

Vincent, did you watch the entire 1983 contest, from beginning to end? I doubt it, otherwise you would have a different opinion about Marlene Charell.

Vincent:
I just found out that Cinema Bizarre are charting in Russia. Do you think they would have been a better choice for Germany this year? They were my favourites in the German NF.

Vincent:
My favourite in the 1983 contest is The UK but Luxembourg was a worthy winner. I also think Greece had a good entry and Italy.

Stockholm,
the greek 1977 entry was also one of the biggest favourites and it got a huge applaus in the venue, and i think Greece is a country people would easier give their vote than Germany, provided they like its entry of course. We know this by now: Germany 2006 and 2007 were gtreat entries, but they got very few votes, from other western european countries. I thin Germany was better served by the juries than by the televoting, and this would have been als the case back then.
To the ESC 1983 now: i have watched bits of the show again, and this tends to be my 2nd favourite 80's contest(esc 1985, my 1st). I did not find the german presenter so bad, as it was later claimed. She was also wearing one of the mst beautiful evening dress of the esc history, she was feeling at ease on stage(i just found out she had been already a pretty sucessful all around entertainer in europe), and a few mistakes have always been made by all esc hosts. My favourites of the 1983 contest still are:
1. Luxembourg
2. Israel
3. Sweden

My bottoom 3 are:
1.Norway
2. Denmark
3. France

Vincent:
I do hope so. In 1977 Silver Convention were one of the favourites, and with televoting I think Germany would have won in 1979 too.
The Greek entries I really like are 2006, 2005, 2001, 1996 and 1989.

the more i hear this sng, "si la vie est cadeau", the more i like it, even after all these years. I think for me it is one of the best winning songs of the ESC pro televoting era. And her live singing ist astonishingly good and very strong. I do not understand why this competent singer never made a big career. I am starting to believe that there exits a curse on the winners of the ESC which after the joy of victory they experience, they fail to succed in their career again(with a few exceptins though)

Stockholm,
that you did not like the greek entry f 1977 is perfectly fine, it is a matter of taste. But do you really think Germany would ever win by televoting? I now that Silver convention, the german participants of 1977 were famous across europe, but i do not think that germany is a country which can have high hopes of winning by televoting.

Vincent:
Personally, I'm not very keen on the 1977 Greek entry. The entries from Germany, The UK, France and Switzerland did very well in Sweden. My guess is that Germany would have won had there been televoting.

So Vincent, reading your description of both songs, I think it is safe to assume that both songs are cheap copies of "Do re mi" from "The sound of music". But the Greek had at least the decency to choose an other title.

Nikolas Psomas [esctoday.com editor]

@Stockholm:
"do-re-mi" was a cheap copy of the greek 1977 entry "Mathima Solfege", presented some 8 years ago:
both songs have the name of notes in the lyrics, the text has similar topic, and they are the only two entries in the history of the contest singing abut the notes itself. both songs are happy and light and both songs were presented by adults in a cute, childish way, actually the greek text talks about memories of singing while one is a child, so practically both songs had exactly the same message and style, but the greek one had a far better and memorable melody and the voices of the singers were much better and it got much more pints from almost all juries, and if you ask me it should have won the 1977 contest, if there was televoting bac then and not hury voting it wuld have won actually, this is my personal opinion of course

What a brilliant contest ! Form me probably the strongest ever, a bunch of really strong entries and most orchestrations were incredibly good. Back there my favourite was Israel but after some time Belgium became my favorite and still is nowadays. The Belgian entry has such a modern sound that it made all the other ones sound very old fashioned. But UK, sweden, spain, germany, yugoslavia and of course Corinne all had very good performances. And Marlene was so great too, both funny (though not willingly...) and classy. Just a shame that Corinne never really managed to build up a real singing career.

83 was a great contest, apart from the set which was one of the worst ever. marlene was charming , these days the presenters hardly attempt french at all

splendid idea, should be done for every winner after 25 or 30 or 50 years.

btw.. yep Munich was both desaster and very successfull. Very good song from Sweden, Israel, Yugoslavia just to name a few. Commercial success of many songs throughout Europe

and hey, what would we do ourdays without the Marlene giving us the funniest host performance of all time. I mean looking back it is pure fun to watch.... Germany six points, Allemagne sept point... and the name of the norwegian conductor was quickly invented. Giiiiih.. think of all the forgettable hosts - she is unforgettable in her own right.

"Do-re-mi, a cheap and silly copy from the greek entry of 1977"
Sorry, but I can't see the similarity between the two entries and I don't prefer one to the other.
Anyway, Jahn and Anita were such a sweet couple :)

Keith, I do not agree on that, I loved the Greek entry that year. But Corinne was a more than deserved winner. Vincent, I don't think she was angry, she was just very tense, nervous. My favorites that year by far were Belgium and Sain, like you my friend. But I love almost every entry that year, even Cyprus. Finland, Fantasia, is a big favorite of mine aswell. GReat contest, great stage, very original start (all partiipants together on stage), and I loved the presenter's dress (but that's about the only thing)....

@Vincent, the worst song of 1983 - in fact the worst song in the entire history of the song contest - was called "Moules".

but the worst entry of 1983 was Norway and "Do-re-mi", a cheap and silly copy from the greek entry of 1977, "Mathima Solfege", a very god and entertaining entry(and my current profile picture :-). Norway deserved the last place with 0 points and not Spain!

i do not agree with you, i liked the stage of Munich very much. For its time it looked very modern, and the lightened squared walls behind the artists looked pretty industrial, and a prescedent of the contemporary screen walls, we get to see in the contemporary ESCs. I also liked many entries this year. I even liked the swedish one very much, something that hapens very rarely to me. I liked and still like the winning song, Israel, the UK, Spain, Finnland, Yugoslavia and Belgium. Ifound awfull France, Germany, Denmark

Ah 1983 my favorite year. I remember DR played a lot of the songs and especially Yugoslavia, Sweden, UK, Denmark (of course!), Luxembourg and Austria got a lot of airplay.

Finland was my favourite but actually i like almost every song that year...even Spain and Turkey!.

My country should have picked Kirsten Siggaard that year. "Og livet går" is a great song and reminds me a bit of "pas pour moi" Switzerland 1986. Unfortunately she only came 7th and the jury was charmed by Gry...like the rest of us did.
