Swedish artists take Olympic bow
Team Sweden: Charlotte, Robert and Sofia in Beijing.
A special concert will be held at the Xiang Yun Theatre on the Beijing Olympic Green, where visitors to the Games can attend for free. Charlotte Perelli, along with Sofia Källgren and Robert Wells will perform to the Chinese and international crowd as well as getting the chance to cheer on their compatriots at the largest sporting event in the world.
Sofia Källgren and Robert Wells participated at Melodifestivalen in 2003 with the Operatic entry, My Love. Her first Melodifestivalen entry came in 1989 when she joined The Visitors on the song Världen är vår. They came 7th out of 10.
A year later, she entered as a soloist for the first time, competing against former Eurovision winner Elisabeth Andreasson (Bobbysocks, Norway 1985) and Carola Häggkvist who finished in second place, a year before going on to win the competition. Sofia took a credible 4th place in the final with Handen på hjärtat.

Ooooh I see now!
lol Mickey mouse
!!
Jonny
No, that was 1980 in the Hague. One of the phones looked like Mickey Mouse
Oh yeah!! So old fashioned, and in one of they years the presenter used a different phone for every jury lol! I think that was 1975 in Sweden!
Jonny
LOL. I watched the 1957 - 1959 contests last night. Have you seen the voting in 1957? It's hilarious. The presenter and her assistent are sitting at a table with two telephones and call up the juries
Stockholm
Yeah, the other funny thing about MF is that in 2002 & 2003 there was more songs in MF than in the actual eurovision itself!
And about stages, I recently saw some videos of the really really early eurovision's like in 1958, 59 etc. and the stages were so minature, it made it look as if eurovision was taking place in someones house! lol
Jonny
I like the song very much. Thanks for the link. Very nice gallery too
I thought the viking stage was beautiful. Please don't remind me of 1991. Such an awful stage and the voting was a joke.
Before this new format there were only 10 songs in MF. The 5 songs which got the highest marks went on to a second chance round. Unbelievable.
Oooh and I know this is COMPLETELY random but i've been meaning to tell you for ages!
Have you heard Sertab's "got me like oh!", well anyway its a great song and theres a different version (better) of it. Its sung by the American artists Gia Farrell and its a more modern version and Gia's voice suits the song more, anyway I prefer it to Sertabs version, you can listen to it here - http://www.imeem.com(...)rell_got_me_like_oh/
And if you like it as much as I do, you can download it here - http://www.filestube(...)fa303ea/details.html
On the subject of stages, have you seen this gallery - http://www.eurovisio(...)/page/photos?gal=304 - Its really cool!
Stockholm
Aaah the viking stage!
I like it alot because its quite original, and I think often simple stage designs can be good, I mean my favourite stage design is Helsinki and it isn't possible to get much simpler!
And my least favourite in Kyiv, far too complicated
! And the 1992 stage was a MASSIVE improvement from the 1991 stage in Rome, the 1991 one looked like they just found random bits of metal, screwed it toegther and "voila" a stage!! lol
And yes, I read about the semis format, I can't imagine MF as a one evening show now!
Jonny
Nanne was supposed to look like a witch I think. She's wearing big false ears and singing that she's jealous. The 4 semi-final format was introduced in 2002 by Svante. After that Melodifestivalen became more interesting.
What do you think of the 1992 ESC stage in Malmö with the viking ship? I liked it but perhaps it was too simple.
Nanne looks very strange in that video, like a fortune teller lol!
Its her hairstyle, very strange!
She looks prettier in 2007 than in 1998 despite the fact shes ten years older in 2007!
Stockholm
The 1998 stage is very peculiar
I'm not sure whether its modern, 60's, or just plain funky!
I have to admit, watch videos of MF from 1999, 2000, 2001 etc it did seem very dated for that time, however since about 2004 its been brought bang up to date
Jonny
You mentioned the stage before. In 1998 the MF stage was very peculiar imo. I wonder what you would say about it. I post a link to Nanne's performance that year and you'll see what I mean:

Jonny
I guess I have to give it one more try or you'll all be lost to me
Stockholm
About the chat room
Well I go on it sometimes and theres normally about 10 people in there but only about 4 or 5 actually speak lol!
It gets busiest in the evenings
And only members can use the chat room anyway, and usually Mina, Owen, Vincent, Ajdin & euro sheep are there
You should come aswell!
We really miss you
Jonny
Yes, the song is quite good. 5 out of 12 entries qualified (for instance Nanne, Lena Philipsson) but not this one. I really hope I will be able to watch the Beijing show. I have emailed SVT.
May I ask you if you've been chatting much and if there are many members in the chat room. Just curious
Stockholm
I really like it
I love the brass backing aswell
In fact that video is really cool because it shows the stage and design of MF 20 years ago, it shows just how much it has moved on
the olympic theme song for beijing is called "you and I" and was actually composed by qigang chen
I would also like to see this performance. It will be on Wednesday evening. I hope SVT will show it.
Jonny, what did you think of Robert Wells' "Sommarnatt"
I posted it below.
I actually really want to see this performance, not just for Charlotte but the Melodifestivalen performance of Sofia is amazing, I really want to see her
I doubt the BBC will show it though
she is greaaatt..
P.U.K.E..................
charlotte will perform on wednesday
Britain is the top Europan contry in the medals table!!!
Brits be very proud. Maybe you can't win Eurovision Song Conteast anymore but you still be Europe number 1 Olympic country! Also you (Brits) maybe you can't host Eurovision Song Contest anymore but you can be proud to host the next Olympics in 2012 in London!!!
Well done GBR so far!!!
