Finland: Euroviisut 2009 final in Tampere

Finnish broadcaster YLE has announced that the grand final of their selection process for Eurovision 2009, Euroviisut, will take place at the Leonardo Hall, in the city of Tampere.

Tampere is not an outsider to the Finnish national final, Euroviisut, as the city has hosted it several times, like in 2002 or 2005. The grand final is scheduled to be held on January 31st, as esctoday.com announced some two months ago, at the Leonardo Hall.

The grand final will be preceded by three semi-finals, scheduled for January 9th, 16th and 23rd. It is expected that all of them will take place probably in a TV studio.

YLE have also announced today that the names of the 12 competitors that will fight for the right to represent Finland next year in Moscow will be revealed on September 25th.

Finland is a country where rock is mainstream music. The only thing is that recently they've stopped pretending to prefer ballads and just send proper music.

If the people of Europe prefer Dima Bilan and his wuss song with mispronounced lyrics over real music like hanna Pakarinen or Teräsbetoni, thats their loss, but Finlands contribution is what keeps me going in ESC to be honest.

I like rock :) Finland sent great songs in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Keep it up!

@ Sharkan

I dont say the song was bad, but without masks they would be 5th, 6th maybe.

I find Norway's song 2005 better then Lordi's, and it was 10th that year

I´m sure more crappy songs from Finland are on their way, after all Yle was so thrilled that Teräsbetoni qualified for the final and got that aaaammmmaaaazzziiiinnggg 22nd position! I don´t expect anything different this year...

Lordi won because first of all they had a good rock song with memorable melody ;] but masks helped them

Im sick of them sending rock again and again, but as I notices every country often sends the style they won the contest with

Finland with rock, Greece with summer pop hits, Serbia with ballade, Sweden with schlager, Turkey with oriental music (not this year though), ...
It is understandable !

But I believe Finns finally saw that their victory wasn't because of rock song but because of masks ! So maybe they'll send a pop song with singer under a good mask, maybe it'll get top placement again

Finland should send sth diffrent thant rock when Grecce stop sending crap-pop songs as Yassou Maria or Secret Combination and Sweden stop sending schalgers :P So it is impossible
-But Finland has wide music market and they can send sth diffrent for example electro-pop or folk music
- But good rock music isn't bad xD
I would like to see rock from Finland but not in 2009. Maybe 2010 or 2011 - a little pause will be desirable

Please not a rock song again. 3 years in a row.. It is quite enough.

The following artists & songs were the bests in the past 3 years:
- Jane- VIP (2006)

- Johanna Kurkela- Olet uneni kaunein (2007)

- Movetron- Cupido (2008)

Anything but rock please....Lordi won because of the show but this years entry was really bad IMO and last years entry just medicore. I'd like to see/hear some fresh, powerful catchy pop or even dance....something like Movetron or Cristal Snow. I doubt they'll try again though. The composer of Shanghain valot should try again though, I liked his entries.

Just not that one big name among newcomers, where we already know the winner without knowing the songs.

Finland - more of the same please! Do not go back to your pre-2006 entries!!!

Hard rock all the way for Finland, not wuss rock like Turkey or San Marino this year :)

Huh! Hah! Missä miehet ratsastaa!!!
