UK gig cancelled!
Finland: Lordi get new look for new album
The album, entitled Deadache, will be released in October, however the first single from it, Bite it Like a Bulldog, comes out today , 1st September digitaly and will be released physically on the 3rd. A special edition, designed by Mr Lordi himself, was released earlier in August for the 550 anniversary of the city of Espoo in Finland. The group describes the album as "having a horror theme, but with a classic rock sound." The song Bite it Like a Bulldog has been played on Finnish radio since mid-August. Earlier this year, the sound of Lordi also featured in the Finnish horror film Dark Floors.
The band were very disappointed to be informed that their first appearance in the UK this year, in the Black Swan Festival, scheduled for 27th September was cancelled by the organisers. "It's been way too long since we last played in the UK, " says Amen. " After the release of the new album, there will be a European tour. If for any reason Uk is not on the list, I will pack my guitar and hit the local malls to play private gigs for all the fans out there!" he concludes.
The first two dates of the tour have already been announced for Berlin on 10th October, where they will be headlining Popkomm and for Clin in the Czech Republic on 29th November.
The band has also got new outfits for the new album, which will be presented for the first time live, together with the entire album, Deadache, in a club gig in Helsinki. You can check out the band's new look here.

I can see how the song is catchy but I belong to those who don't believe this song would have won if it was presented different. It would have scored well though.
About the kids, I don't know what happened in other countries but in Greece every single kid/teenager those days, especially boys, were crazy about the Lordi's masks..from the moment they arrived to Greece and before they even heard the song.
I seriously don't know anyone over 14 who voted for the Lordi (not saying there weren't any, just noone among my friends/family/colleagues/acquaintances) but I know many kids who watched Eurovision just to watch 'the cool monsters with the cool masks' and I really think that even if they sang...opera, they would have voted for them.
I screamed, jumped like crazy when Lordi won. No wonder my neighbours didn't complain (I guess they are used to it, after sveral ESC-finals and football matches). I LOVE rock music, and the fact that a PROPER rock song won for the first time ever made me so overjoyed, I felt like a Finn myself (I had a Finnish girlfriend back then too, now she is from my country).
Even if many GOOD songs have won ESC...seldom my favourites have won. Maybe because my taste is a little "alternative". I get a bit fed up by people who claim "they won because of masks" etc. Sorry, but it's rubbish!
probably those people are not too fond of rock music, and just don't see the qualities in this great, catchy rock song.
I also liked "Hard rock hallelujah" a lot, but I'm sure they didn't want because of rock fans. Most rock fans don't care to vote in ESC as far as I know.

Lordi didn't dress up for the contest only. The band existed long before and they have always been wearing masks on stage and in interviews. Masks or no masks, "Hard Rock Hallelujah" was a great rock song and for me one of the best ESC winners
If they are metal band I don't see why they tries so hard to keep atention on them with stupid costumes. I'm not a metal fan but I like some songs by Nightwish, HIM, ... and they didn't need to get monsters masks and fireworks to make me like their music !
That's just part of their act - their identity - I guess. It's not like they're hiding behind the masks or something.
Kids - who are still awake at such late hour, so kids = +8years - vote for idols and animation-characters... not monsters. And if they do, I doubt it would have been for the masks alone.
The performance on its own was OK - given a rock act that is - so there could have been some points coming from. The song wasn't bad at all, and yah perhaps the masks completed the whole picture.
But they like monsters, witches, robbots and such things.
They don't care if the song is pop, rock or metal, they saw cool monsters, cool fireworks on stage and it was enough for them to vote and call for them. Almost all kids here like them because they are cool monsters with cool masks, I'm sure they don't even understand what they are singing about !
Of course I didn't say that I think only kids voted, there were old ppl too, but kids for sure helped them get 6, 7 points from countries that don't vote for Finland in other years !
As for song, I even find it quite Ok, but what I saw on stage was trash. If they are metal band I don't see why they tries so hard to keep atention on them with stupid costumes. I'm not a metal fan but I like some songs by Nightwish, HIM, ... and they didn't need to get monsters masks and fireworks to make me like their music !
they won mostly thanx to kids who didn't go to sleep but asked their mums and dads to call for cool monsters.
hope this scandal will never happen again or as we say ne ponovilo se !
That must be the exact same reason why Greece keeps scoring as well... lol
One little detail though... kids don't like 'hard rock' or 'metal' a whole lot...

Lordi didn't win due to rock fans, if this was the case then all rock songs would do well in ESC. They won due to their costumes that many people laughed with...
Tornero was my favorite in 2006.
But remember that hard rock has a huge audience out there. Many people who are not into pop music at all watch Eurovision. Those are the people who made Lordi win. Because they had the only heavy rock song that year.
Besides I liked them as well.
Hmm... I liked Lordi as winners (especially after this year's winner, I actually miss them).
They weren't my favourites but the song was good. I really didn't care about the masks, I was neither positive nor negative about it.
My favourite Christine from Norway and Anna from Greece were FAR AWAY from first place, so I was very glad that at least Finland won, they deserved it after sooooo many unsuccesfull participations (MANY of them deserved to go down but quite good entries went also down... like in 2002).
What I missed was the happy winner look and the victory tears and the usual stuff you would expect from an exotic winner but well, it was either the masks or that...
Funny moment: When Greek godess Elena Paparizou handed Mr. Lordi the winning trophy and tried to kiss him but didn't find a monster- free spot on his face
The beauty and the beast indeed lol
@ Jonny
Tornero ( i think it was a cool song ) was big hit in Greece that year, and also played in Serbia and many other countries around.

Yes we all remember Lordi here (and ppl who are not fans) so maybe they got what they wanted, but more people remember them in negative way. And they were the less popular winner ( if we count the popularity of the song itself) here, for 6 years now. All others were more popular even Bilan and Sertab, Ruslana and especialy Elena were big big hits for months and even no fans knew their songs very good, what we can't say for Lordi.
But I agree on that they won fairly (if we don't count Scandinavian block which turned from Norway, Denmark and Sweden to Finland that year), they didn't get diaspora votes
DON'T SOME PEOPLE TALK ALOAD OS RUBBISH , LORDI HAS TO BE THE WORST EVER WINNIG SONG, THAT NIGHT I WAS THERE , AND LET ME TELL YOU IT KILLED THE WHOLE CONTEST .LET'S HOPE NO MORE RUBBISH LIKE THAT ,EVER WINS AGAIN
Wow - what a departure their new look is...
name me one other act in Athens that a) would have been remembered if they'd won and b) would have had a big hit in many countries like Hard Rock Hallelujah was.
Lordi were great winners. And they did it without the 'help' of a diaspora (which can't be said of all the other winners of the last 5 years).
For me the best winner in 2000s is Serbia and Turkey with Sertab.
And the best Eurovision show (without counting songs quality and winner) is Belgrade and Athens by far the most spectacular 2 events of ESC contest both with great postcards, effects and venues, but 2008 winner was of course better then 2006 one.
For me
I think Lordi are a bit like Marmite, you either love them or you hate them, I love them!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I love them too - and I love marmite, but I can't get it here in Denmark - must ask my English relatives to send me some!
Lordi are the worst winners of Eurovision ever. There were so many good songs in the contest that year it was a shame a circus had to win.
It is just the matter of taste folks!
For me 2008 with the horrible winner of Mr Bilan is the worst for decades - Lordis win was great and Athens was fabulous!
I actually love their new song! So catchy!
Although they weren't my favourite that night, it was a damn catchy song! I secretly love them
I like their new single, it reminds me a bit of Metallica in the beginning. It does get a bit repetetive after awhile, though.
There will always be people that wont accept Lordis victory just the same way as I surely can´t get why Dima won this year. The boring part is that it´s always the same bunch of people in here that react negative towards Lordi. You know, it happened already. Get over it and move on.
Lordi was and still is for me the worst winners in the history of the contest. It was the terrible finale of a great ESC, it spoiled the 2008 year, which on the whole is one of the best for me
I can agree with you on one thing - believe it or not - Dima should have won in 2006. But Lordi is by far one of the most surprising winners ever. Were they bad? No, just different and a bit out of place on the contest. For me they weren't the worst winners, and afterward I'm glad their music at least once could convince an otherwise pop-minded ESC-public.
@ Vincent
you mean 2006 year ?
Ye, 2006 was a great year totally destroyed with Lordi winning, if Dima won that year it would be good for all, and this year somebody else would win and not Dima.
I think Dima won mostly because of Lordi won over him 2 years ago and now he came again to win

The only winner from 2003 to our days that I really really hated.
I thought they didn't even deserve a final.
But OK, they are history for me now, and Finland gave us a good show last year.
Everybody sais they won because of fireworks and costumes, forgetting the simple truth is that they had a Kick Ass song, that would have won even with a mainstream rocl performance.
Lordi are great, and one of the best ESC winners imo. I'm sure this new album will be as good as The Arockalypse
lol Jonny, Horsham. Don't forget to lock the cats in
