Raffaella Carrà spreads Eurovision interest
Latvia: The Pirates of the Sea invaded Rome
After having opened the series with Dima Bilan two weeks ago and showed a clip of Ani Lorak last week, yesterday night it was the turn for the Pirates of the Sea from Latvia.
Front singer of the group is Roberto Meloni, originally from the small Sardinian town of Ardara (near Sassari). Before the group started singing Wolves of the Sea, their Eurovision 2008 entry, Raffaella Carrà made it possible for Roberto’s mother to meet her son and see him performing live for the first time ever.
We can expect other surprises coming in the next weeks, since Raffaella after hosting the 2008 Spanish national selection Salvemos Eurovisión has become a great fan of the Eurovision Song Contest.
You can watch the performance of Pirates of the Sea and the “family moment” of Roberto Meloni below:

This night Raffaella will host Simon Mathew (DK)
Oh common' people this already looks like competition about who will say the worst thing about Pirates. Take it easy, they were where they where, and there's nothing you can do about it. Be real, we always (almost always
) pick right songs to stand out for. And I'm sure we will do it next year again. Wether it is trash or no trash doesn't matter, cause at the end the song that nearly came to top10 will surely will be more memorable, than maybe OK song, which lost in the semi. That's the way Eurovision works. Frankly speaking, all songs in ESC are more or less trashy
This song was definitely awfull and I prefer not to comment the live performance (even my grandmother, who is deaf, noticed how 'good' they sung. By the way, bring Italy back!
Raffaella had a big hit in the NL with "A far l'amore comincia tu"
That was way back in the 70's..
Good to know she's still doing fine
So is there any chance that Italy could return in 2009? When is the deadline for countries to make their provisional applications to enter?
Jonny
I hope so too
Or maybe Tony with the "cute accent"
Fabio De luca Ti Brucia ?????? ahahhaha
invidioso ahahahhah
Forza Pirati
Stockholm
Aaah I think i've seen the video of them singing A-Capella
And I hope the guy from the poodles wins at "Stars on ice"
Our version is called "Dancing on ice", although at the moment "strictly come dancing" (ballroom) is on instead
Jonny
LOL
It was a great programme. They started by showing clips from MF and then from ESC. I liked it when the Swedish team sang a cappella.
I just found out that the Swedish version of "Stars on ice" will start tomorrow. One of the guys from The Poodles will skate and also Tony, our British expert commentator in EDC
(In fact, watching Kristian singing "lets get this party started" at the opening of the MF final this year, has to be one of the highlights of the esc season 2008!
)
Stockholm
Aaah, I find Kristian Luuk funny and I can't even understand what hes saying lol!
Jonny
Yes of course, Tornero
Now there's a programme on SVT with Luuk and Charlotte looking back at ESC 2008
Stockholm
Yeah, or even Tornero . . . basically anything with Italian in it somewhere lol!
Or I think "hold on be strong" would be a good idea, because I don't know about Italy, but that sort of old-jazzy-modern music is quite fashionable in the UK atm
Jonny
Or maybe the Latvian 2007 entry
That is a good point . . . if Italians are to get interested in esc again, I doubt the pirates are giving them the right image lol!
The best songs to present on this show would be the Romanian one, Greek one and probably the San Marinese one
Well Done Rafaela for supporting Eurovision Song Contest :-)
But choosing the stupid pirates wasn't that great idea.
I can't believe this bunch of retarded bad singers is still around. But they still have the guts to sing this rubbish
God I am so glad they show video from Belgrade on RAI UNO, I hope Raffaella Carrà will help bringing Italy to back in ESC. I am so happy someone in Italy are making this in his show....
Came on Italy back
True Latvia finished bove Sweden
BUT
one thing the Semi-system proved to us is that scores change in just two days. Charlotte, the jury's wildcard, finished above Croatia (which tied third in iher semi). Russia only came third in their semi-final. You just never know in Eurovision how results will change.
@ Renee lind - and it even was the second swedish entry lol....but you are right, of course. Very bad song.
About Italy - sure, they should make a comeback, like Slovakia did. It is very unlikely though and to be honest - the last few San Remo winners would have ended at the bottom of the ESC scoreboard for sure, like San Marino at the first semi final. . San Remo is far away from the modern ESC- if that's a good or bad thing is another question.
Jonny
Yeah, I just listened to it. It was very good
Stockholm
lol!
The song is sung by a girl called chloe i think
Jonny
"like a Zombie" lol. So am I. I don't like getting up early. I'll listen to the French ballad.
"(Oh, you're doing a paper round. I guess you have to get up very early in the morning then.) "
Yeah 6:30!
I'm like a Zombie at that time in the morning lol!
And I agree Belgium has alot of good JESC songs, there was a good french ballad in their JESCNF this year
Jonny
I like the song though not as much as "Shut up". Belgium has so many good JESC songs
I will never forgive Christer for rejecting "Shine"
(Oh, you're doing a paper round. I guess you have to get up very early in the morning then.)
It's great that at least some of this esc participants are invited to that show, surely some people in Italy still care about this contest..I know I would even if Greece stopped taking part in it.
About Latvia, well, I admit it's a catchy tune and I can understand why it went to the final but still...in my opinion, such 'songs' don't belong to Eurovision
Btw Stockholm, what do you think of this song that was in the Belgian JESC NF this year? - http://uk.youtube.co(...)/watch?v=x8d0rF8XYkc - I really like it
